Oh, c'mon. He said "it was sort of a small surge", due entirely to having their deployment extended beyond what they had planned for, and so not having anybody on leave or R&R. He wasn't talking about The Surge. And it came at the *end* of his tenure there.

Why do you only quote part of what he said? You left off "And that began the Anbar Awakening." He was saying The Surge began the Anbar Awakening. It didn't.

I will agree to all that. But it doesn't change the fact that the Awakening preceded the Surge.
JLB can twist and spin all he likes. And he will. But the FACTS are irrefutable. McCain said the Surge led to the Anbar Awakening, which led to the Sunni Awakening. That is just flat out false. It was either a lie or a flub. And frankly, I wonder which of those would be worse.

The problem with that?

The Sunni Awakening preceded the Surge.

And this...

A slip up? A lie? Which would be worse?
Kind of like Obama's Auschwitz claim. haha

Yes. Where Obama's grandfather served is a pressing bit of national policy, like the war in Iraq. All candidates should be absolutely aware of where their grandfathers served in the war. Frankly, I'm shocked that it didn't come up in any of the debates.

Knowing a little thing like THE TIMELINE OF THE (*)(*)(*)(*)ING SURGE YOU SAY YOU SUPPORTED BUT APPARENTLY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT... that's just a side issue compared to knowing where Grandpa killed Krauts.

McCain spokesperson:

Quote:
"Democrats can debate whether the awakening would have survived without the surge ... but that is nothing more than a transparent effort to minimize the role of our commanders and our troops in defeating the enemy, because to credit them would be to disparage the judgment of Barack Obama and praise the leadership of John McCain."
So Obama points out the facts that McCain clearly got wrong and McCain responds with the usual "hide behind the troops" rhetoric. What a coward.

It's typical. Deflect and spin. Never mind what McCain said, OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA BAD!

i doubt mKKKain knew the facts about the sheik's death, otherwise he would have selected a more fitting reference. it would not seem that the aq extermination of abdul sattar abu risha, happening after he recruited American support, undermines the accuracy of mKKKain's story
