You are allowed to vote and your vote will count. I agree that you vote will be irrelevant, but that is the quirk of the electoral college. That is why the electoral college should be scrapped. The popular vote should control in this country (after all, that alone would make the election more exciting).

Do you agree with the ban on ex-felons being able to vote? I would definitely agree with the ban when applied to imprisoned people and those on parole or probation, but once the person has "paid his or debt to society," that person should be allowed once again to vote.

Quote:
In 1998, Florida privatized the creation of the felon list, which had previously been done manually at the local level in hopes of making the process more efficient.
Well, that didn't exactly work out well, did it?

Quote:
The private company who compiled the list forwarded the list to state elections officials, who forwarded this list to local county elections supervisors, WHO ARE REQUIRED BY LAW to check the list for accuracy.
Good work!

In some counties, the elections supervisors DID NOT FOLLOW THE LAW, and some people (WHITE AND BLACK) were denied the opportunity to vote.
Then you agree that the state did disenfranchise people? Please explain this to JP5.

If this was an attempt to suppress the black vote, it was certainly the lamest attempt at a secret conspiracy EVER. I don't like Jeb! much, but he's not that stupid. If he had a plot, it would be carried off better than this.
Exectly how stupid do you think he is? LOL I have never said that the Florida debackle was intentional fraud. I said that I have serious questions about what happened and I wondered if the result of the election would have been different if those in charge had been Gore supporters.

Since you live in Florida, let me ask you a question. Do you think that the result (Bush winning) was the collective and legitimate decision from your state or do you believe that if things had been done right that Gore would have won?

But one is real...and the other one isn't. I let you guess which of the two.....disenfranchisement of blacks or terrorism.....is real. Some of the images you saw on tv this past week-end might give you a clue.
It is clear that there were many mistakes in Florida that resulted in disenfranchisement. It is equally clear that terrorism is alive and well in the world. If the moniker "war president" has any validity, it is only because Bush has served while we fought wars; not that he has any special ability that makes him an effective leader of the troops. The belief that Kerry is supported by terrorists was a joke on my part and the fact that you took it serious shows how bent your view of Kerry is.

Some Americans believe that tough talk and a "bomb first, ask questions later" attitide makes Bush a better leader for the war on terror, but I have seirous questions about that view. I think we have wasted a LOT of resources waging an unnecessary war and that makes us less safe than we would have been had we reserved those recources for use against an enemy that was a threat to us.

And you just gave the best reason NOT to vote for John Kerry......because he's ........."the guy who all the terrorists want to be president." Why do you think the terrorist want Kerry? Because Bush has been hard on them; and because they believe Kerry will not be.
I guess next time, I will need to use the [sarcasm] tags. I was going to do that this time, but I thought you could recognize a joke. My mistake.

I HATE when people do that. It's like someone saying, "I are a intellekchewuhl."

or maybe when someone is so self serving as to say, "I served in Viet Nam and was wounded three times. Vote for me."

All I did was point out the obvious fact that she took what I thought was clearly sarcastic as non-sarcastic. I figured that maybe I would help her in the future. It is wrong to help fellow forum members?

Isn't this a lot like saying, "my dad kept me out of vietnam, but I flew onto an aircraft carrier in a flysuit after illegally invading a country, so I am a war president" Vote for me?

Is it just me or when Bush refers to himself as a "war president" do you hear the drill sargeant from Full Metal Jacket scream "let me hear your war cry?" LOL

Default DETROIT!

I believe a Republican Congressman in Detroit stated earlier this year that the "black vote must be suppressed " or they will NOT win.

Anyone see anything wrong with that?

Default sounds like a good strategy to me..

Attempt to suppress the voting bloc that has no clue about politics.. the bloc that only knows which party PAYS them off... good strategy.. ESP. in Detroit!!
