Default Speculation: How would Obama handled the Cuban Missile Crisis?

Well we have Russia having military exercises in the Carribean Sea south of Cuba again with TU-160 nuclear bombers deploying to Venezuela run by Chavez who Castro is his mentor. Its like 1962 all over again. Compared to JFK who had military experience and stood up to the russians and they backed down, what do you think Obama would have done and he needs to be asked what he would do with the certain situation happening right now because what if Chavez lets Russia install missiles in Venezuela like Castro did in Cuba?

What would he do? Not sure.

I believe he would be more aggressive than McCain though. Regarding Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda, McCain was asked if he would go into Pakistan to take care of it or if it was verified that Osama was there. He said there's a problem with sovereignty. Obama was asked the same question, he said he'd go in straight up, not buts about it.

For this and other reasons, I've found Obama is actually the more hawkish of the two.

I also believe Obama's response would be swifter and more direct than McCain's based on their responses to the questions about al Qaeda and Pakistan and statements both have made on Russia's growing boldness toward the US.

McCain hasn't shown any diplomatic skills and with his recklessness it would probably mean the end of life as we know it.

Russia backed down? You seem to be leaving out an important point heh?

Russia used that as leverage to force us to remove weapons pointed at them in their backyard...and the US backed down and complied to get those cuban missiles removed.

Russia backed JFK into a check mate position and the smarts he showed was the recognition of that check mate and to accept it. That was a much better option than starting a hot war that could have gone nuclear.

Afterall, what Russia asked of us was fair. We want to creep around their neighborhood, then they in turn will creep around in ours. If you dont want them in ours, you should understand why they dont want us in theirs. Its really very simple...do unto others as you would them do unto you.

If we are so willing to do it to them then we dont really have much cause to complain that they do it right back.
