The shoot, kill and then blink metality of Palin's will no doult be discuss for a long time, especially if some reason, she becomes president of the most powerful nation in the world, that metality will become front and center in our governement policy. What she fail to understand is that Russia is not some small country like Iraq. A war with Russia with lasts for a long time and more resourse than most American would be willing to expend. There has to be a better reason to attack Russia than just the fact that Russia attack Georgia. After all, we are talking about possible WW3 or a global neclear war. Are we so hell bent in destroying the world?

Russia threatens to target US missile shield sites: reports

Russia could point missiles at strategic US targets in central Europe, including planned American missile shield sites in Poland and the Czech Republic, a senior Russian general said Wednesday.
"I can't exclude that if such decisions are taken by our military-political leadership, the missile shield in Poland and the Czech Republic and other such objects could be chosen as designated targets for some of our inter-continental ballistic missiles," General Nikolai Solovtsov said, quoted by Interfax.

Moscow "is obliged to take corresponding measures that prevent under any circumstances the devaluing of Russia's nuclear deterrent.

"We should be sure that the current and future strategic missile forces... are guaranteed to fulfil the task of strategic deterrence," said Solovtsov, the head of Russia's strategic missile forces.

Solovtsov added that by the end of the year Russia planned to carry out four strategic missile tests, including a test of the new RS-24, capable of carrying a clutch of independently targetable warheads.

The comments came as tensions mounted between Russia and the United States over last month's Russian military surge into Georgia and the fraught question of missile defence.
While the 10 missile interceptors planned for Poland could not themselves undermine Russia's arsenal, Moscow was troubled by a lack of transparency in the project, Solovtsov said.

Moscow sees the plans for new US missile defence facilities in central Europe as part of an effort to encircle Russia.

Exactly. Moreover, Russia hasa lot of power - we can decide to starve Europe of oil and gas if we need to - it would be fatal to the world if a Russia - USA war would start (especially nuclear) as everyone would be affected. But most probably, the US being quite cowardly will send more allies to fight us than be straight forward.

Absolutely, I can. Your bellicosity notwithstanding, you may be assured that the US is not afraid of Russia.

War plans are being updated to reflect the decided degradation of the Russian war machine that has happened over the past 15 years. In addition, we are well aware that the Russian economy could not withstand the financial pressure that could be brought to bear.

So .... whistle past the graveyard if you wish, but don't ever underestimate.

A more important question is why the hell are we trying to get Georgia or Ukraine to join NATO?
What purpose does it serve other than baldfaced provocation?
There is an insane Dr. Strangelove mentality behind such asinine attempts.
NATO had a purpose once, but now it seems to have degenerated into just another imperialist tool wielded by arrogant militarists.
We have no business trying to create such situations that are essentially no-win, unless a nuclear holocaust inspires lust in your heart.
There are some really sick people around, and having a president like bomb, bomb, bomb Iran McCain would only embolden their insanity.

An interesting perspective is the Russian take on MS. Palin's comments.

There's a thread going on about this over on Pravda.Ru - the Russian counterpart to Political Forum.com

Palin leaves open option of war with Russia

Some posts by Russian citizens:

Somebody have to teach Sara Palin, What is atomic bomb. Russia has thousands of atomic bombs, yet she wants to wage war against this power, amazing! how Americans let her get access to the US atomic arsenal. In the age of imperialism it seems that we are living in a mad mad world. Please take a time and read this revealing article:

I don't think anyone in their right mind wants to have a nuclear war over Georgia. But if Georgia is put into NATO before its territory is agreed on, then war would become an unfortunate possibility. I don't think Georgia really belongs in NATO anyway. Georgia would be much better off with good relations with both Russia and the NATO countries, even with less territory than it now claims. Being rid of the two republics recognized by Russia that have not really been integrated into Georgia for years would reduce stress on its economy.
I want Russia and the United States spending their cooperative efforts on space exploration. Georgia has gotten in the way.
I think it is just plain interesting that the governor of Alaska is in a subject regarding war with Russia considering that Alaska was purchased from Russia.

Very interesting to get the take from the other side. As the 2nd poster above puts it, most of the people over there are like the people over here. We all wish the two countries could work together cooperatively.

Nobody wants war. At least not the general populace.

I think that many people still think the way they did during the cold war. Russia and the USA have never fought a direct war. They either fought each other by financing other people to fight each other or by financing people to fight the USA (Vietnam & Korea) or the USSR (Afghanistan). These two countries remain crutial to world stability (I must admit this although I dispise NATO - but that's another topic), and we are not even able to imagine what would happen if Russia and the USA fought a war (not even necessarily a nuclear war). It is quite probable that a full-scale world war would happen again as different countries start taking sides and the human race would annihilate itself.

And our friends in the Middle East can do the same to America. Cool....
