.. seems that this election will be historic for another reason. With both Barack (half white) and Todd Palin (Native American / Indigenous Alaskan), it will be the first time that a president or vice-president will have gone into the white house being in an interracial relationship. I know interracial relationships are becoming more and more popular but this should really bring them to the forefront.

Some wonderful changes are coming! I love it.

In most european societies it wouldn't mean (*)(*)(*)(*). But in the states, race is still a hot button topic and will continue to be as long as there is any advantage to be had by trumpeting it.

Another of those "glass ceilings" the pundits speak of so often. There is nothing partisan in the OP, I just found it interesting.

I think it's great and shows that we are coming along , no matter how slowly!

mixed marriages ? I am neither for or against mixed marriages but can we not break glass ceiling without inte racial marriages ? Are there benefits to inter-racial marriages ? If so what are they ?

Not in the parts I've lived in for the last 9 years. But then again, I don't like it when Joe Podunk from alabama tries to speak for the whole country so I guess I should have clarified better.

Anyway, I think its great that America is finally getting to this point but
I think it will be even better when a persons skin color is no longer considered a qualification.

There are genetic advantages to having biracial children. You can easily look it up in most scientific journals. I also don't understand why you're asking "can we not break the glass ceiling of never having a president / vice-president in an interracial marriage without having them in an interracial marriage". It's an illogical question as that is the only way to break the glass ceiling.
