So McCain is entitled to collect is old age benefits - he's of the right age.

But is that right?

Should be receiving social security for retirement when he's not even retired?

The Social Security he receives is in addition to his current salary as a U.S. Senator that is in the range of $180,000 plus and does not including his Senatorial pensions.

In 2006, McCain's wife Cindy earned $6 million, and has a net worth of approximately $100 million. If anyone in America doesn’t need $1,900 a month – it is John McCain.

For someone who claims to be so AGAINST the social security system, he sure didn’t miss a heartbeat to sign up and get his money.

If the system is so broken, why make it worse by participating? It is not mandatory that he collect the money.

Why Does McCain Get Social Security?

Because McCain is a really really really old man without a house to his name (thats breakin news for him btw).. so he needs every dime he can get outta the govt.

Um. I'm pretty sure this thread is about John McCain collecting Social Security benefits that he doesn't need, in spite of his insisting that Social Security is "broken."

If you'd like to discuss the Clinton's mortgage, and think others are remotely interested when neither one of them are running for public office, please feel free. In the meantime, do you have any comment on Mr. McCain accepting money doesn't need from a program he has often decried?

Do you honestly think that the Clintons are the only ex-presidential couple with these benefits. Did the enact them just before leaving office? Bush sr. lives on $10 a month and a can of alpo? This is the same deal that every single president gets, I doubt that the clintons deal was any sweeter than anyone who came before.

and I am sorry for continuing the thread hijack. It's just so easy to pick them off, like shooting lawyers in a bush. I won't continue this any further here.

Palin won’t say whether veep is an executive post - Does this scare anyone else? It terrifies me.

Probably the biggest irony of this election is that there is a possibility of having a Palin-Pelosi administration in the next 8 years.

Let's keep in mind also, besides his Social Security benefits, John McCain gets a tax-free disability pension due to injuries as a POW.

His tax return for 2007 disclosed that he received a pension of $58,358 that was not listed as income on his return.

If McCain had to pay taxes on the full amount of the pension, it would have increased his tax bill by about $18,000 based on the percentage of his income he paid to the federal government.

He-Dino began receiving his benefits at 65 even though he was still working full-time. So did my father and several of his brothers. This is fairly common and is one of several reasons that the minimum age to draw full retirement regardless of work status is being gradually raised to 68.
