I was going to comment on this, but ABoyNamedSue and Glinda have already said what needed saying. How lame can you get - taking an analogy and making it seem that the candidate was called an animal - twice now.

He's a Texan. You gotta understand Texas humor, like when Begala says that bu$h is "all hat no cattle". That's funny in a derogatory sense.

BTW Begala didn't call her a monkey. He's too smart for that. He just used an analogy. Of course the OP knows that too, he just wanted to increase his attack dog post count.

Just to be clear, Begala used that same monkey analogy earlier on a CNN news clip investigating Palin's lies about her support for the "Bridge to Nowhere" - and nobody seemed to mind then.

Full transcript below:

ROBERTS:
Paul, there’s a lot of controversy about whether or not she supported the bridge to nowhere. We pulled some sound from a 2006 debate in which she appears to at least give tacit approval to it. Let’s listen to what she said.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

GOV. SARAH PALIN, VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: I’m not going to stand in the way of progress that our congressional delegation and the position of strength that they have right now. They’re making those efforts for the state of Alaska to build up our infrastructure. I would not get in the way of progress — this project or other projects that they are working so hard on.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ROBERTS: That would appear, Paul, to end any argument over whether or not she supported the bridge initially. But why can’t Barack Obama make that point stick?

PAUL BEGALA, CNN POLITICAL CONTRIBUTOR: Because the press won’t do its job, John. I criticized Barack Obama when he hasn’t been tough enough. Barack’s job is to run against John McCain, right. Don’t shoot the monkey when you can shoot for the organ grinder. His job is not to focus on number two but number one. But it is the media’s job when a politician flat out lies like she’s doing on this bridge to nowhere so call her on it. Or this matter of earmarks where she’s attacking Barack Obama for having earmarks, when she was the mayor of little Wasilla, Alaska, 6,000 people, she hired a lobbyist who was connected to Jack Abramoff, who is a criminal and they brought home $27 million in earmarks. She carried so much pork home she got trichinosis. But we in the media are letting her tell lies about her record.

So what is it you're really upset about?

Begala using a monkey analogy...

Or Maher flat out calling her a pig?

I'm upset about both. It is the democrats that are taking the low road here. It is the democrat party which is supposed to be so enlightened about womens' issues and yet they are the ones making sexist remarks and sexists judgements and doing stuff that is just frankly low brow garbage that wouldn't be done to any male candidate. Republicans are not taking the low road here at all. In fact when we just simply point out the blatant sexism in say Obama calling Palin a pig, we are the ones attacked for distorting the facts. People are not as stupid as you assume they are and any one who watches that video knows exactly who he is talking about, because the crowd certainly does.

I can't wait for the debates, your side sucks and you are going to be very embarrassed when McCain and Palin rip your guys a new O-hole.

Well, you democrats can get down in the gutter but you won't here me call Barak Obama a monkey. In fact, I will say, I definitely do not think that Obama is a monkey. In anyway. Nope. Obama, not a monkey.
It was not meant literally, but was not a fair analogy. I would say McCain and Palin are both monkeys and the grinder would be the Republican Party policy makers and their financial supporters.

So if I were to object to Obama's presuring democrat groups to get Palin uninvited from the protest of Akmajinidad at the UN and I was to say that this type of monkey business is not very bi-partisan, you wouldn't find that offensive?

Um... no. Because it's a commonly used phrase... just like the ones you seem to be so hurt by. Taking offense in offhand remarks is quite silly.
