Default McCain had a shot until he picked Palin

I'm a strong believer that a VP is pretty much a nobody and the goal is not to hurt the campaign, and to just promote the presidential nominee.

I think McCain was thinking he'd ride this wave. He did the superficial female pick to handcuff the female voters, no way he would've picked this woman if he thought he didn't need to shake it up.

He shook it up and it looked good for a week. We were on top, leading in the polls. Then she opened her mouth, and then we found out all this stuff about her. From troopergate to her kids, to her aerial hunting, to her spending taxpayers and state money for her use, for her abortion stance, and now she's viewed more unfaborable then favorable. Risky gamble by McCain that backfired in the end.

I fear that she will get obliterated in these debates and doom the campaign even more. I know why he went the female route, but he picked the wrong female.

There were a lot of people who pointed out that even if he was hellbent on picking a woman, there were plenty of women with much stronger resumes out there. I actually predicted Kay Bailey Hutchinson for that reason.

I think McCain, seeing his lag in the polls, either made a hasty decision or said "what the hell" and rolled the dice. I don't think it's working out for him, though.

I also really really hope that one reason he's floundering is because of all the out-and-out lies he's been telling. If there's any justice in the world, that kind of mendaciousness should come back to bite you.

Is that significant?

Palin's favorability ratings have been falling sharply, and her unfavorability ratings rising sharply.
http://www.usnews.com/articles/news/...g-to-fall.html

The most recent poll shows her at 40% favorable and 30% unfavorable, and the trend line suggests that things will continue to worsen for her, at least in the short term.

Consider that Hillary Clinton, who many viewed as a polarizing candidate, finished her primary campaign with a 48.6% favorable rating and a 44% unfavorable.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epo...rable-644.html

Palin appears to be a controversial pick -- not exactly what McCain needs right now.

What will kill her and the repubs is her abortion stance once that gets out more. The lady preaches her religion as a science. The whole creationism debate, her belief that dinosaurs were around 4,000 years ago. It just looks bad.

I would've gave them a fighting chance and potentially my vote if they chose Pawlenty, but like I said McCain sold his soul basically for this Palin and is now facing the consequences for his brash and foolish decision.

1. That wasn't the poll he was refering to! The poll he was refering to was the Daily Kos poll which is a joke on its face!

2. That same CBS/New York Times poll has Obama 45% 35%. So if you want to ues that poll fine! Why is your canidate more unfavorable than our VP?

Okay. My point is that whatever you think his source is, the overall idea is accurate: Her favorable ratings have been tanking.

His favorables are higher, too. And he's been in the public eye for far longer. Give it time; her unfavorables don't have to rise very much to beat him.

no way in hell that mKKKain had ANY shot at the presidency except for his serendipitous selection of palin

there was no reason to get excited by mKKKain ... until palin arrived

look at the crowds they can expect now ... before, he could not even attract shoppers in the cheese section of a grocery store (while Obama was in berlin)

think about it, no one ever spoke of his campaign ... it was always Obama and his was then compared as an after thought

also, let's look at his roster of "eligibles" from which to choose

LIEberman ... israeli agent assigned to congress
lindsey graham, his sidekick ... gay
Hagel ... absolutely not, per Hagel
Colin Powell ... not only no, but no f'n way! (per Powell)
Huckabee ... evangelist who will be the Republican nominee in 2012. not a good fit for mKKKain
romney ... mormon connection was killer as was the failure of his health plan in mass
julieannie ... demos have a boatload of crap to throw at this crook
tom ridge ... like that was gonna work

Americans love an underdog, and until proven to be a liar Americans without a brain will love palin ... and that constitutes a majority
