Default Dodd & Others Say NO to Bailout Plan

So, if these leaders refuse to sign on---seeing as how they have no better plan of action----then when we go into a recession, it is clearly on their heads! They've been warned.

Paulson's plan in current state unacceptable: US Senator Dodd
Tue Sep 23, 4:03 PM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The government economic rescue plan presented by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson is "not acceptable" in its current state, Senate Banking Committee chairman Christopher Dodd said Tuesday.

"A lot of reservations have been expressed this morning by Democrats and Republicans on this matter," said Dodd, a Democrat, speaking to reporters after Paulson and Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke testified in Congress.

"What they have sent to us, this is not acceptable," said Dodd. "This is not going to work."

"They're going to have to come back and work with us," said Dodd.

The ranking Republican on the Banking Committee, Senator Richard Shelby, seemed to agree with Dodd.

"I have a lot of concern with the proposal," said Shelby. "Seven hundred billion dollars is a lot of money to me, it's a lot of money for taxpayers."

Bernanke and Paulson pressed Congress on Tuesday to urgently pass a 700-billion-dollar Wall Street bailout, warning the entire US economy was at risk.

Bernanke told lawmakers that despite unprecedented steps already taken by the Republican administration to confront the crisis, global financial markets "remain under extraordinary stress."

Democratic congressional leaders and some Republican colleagues have insisted the bailout, crafted by Paulson, a former Goldman Sachs president, include sweeping safeguards and oversight to protect US taxpayers.

So, NOW the neo-cons are for big government and oversight. How convenient.

No, we are already in a recession. The next step is a depression.

If we do sink that far it will be on the heads of the Bush Administration, Hank Paulson (Wall St. insider) and Ben Bernanke (Bush appointed stooge).

Unfortunately, these morons will vacate their offices in Jan. when the Obama Administration takes over.

There will be a bailout package passed, but it will be on Congress' terms not the White House's.

No, not under normal circumstances. This is not a normal circumstance. And not acting this time can actually bring a lot of people down and can reach all the way down to the working people. Something I'm SURE Democrats would not want, right?

No, technically we are not in a recession yet. We must have two consecutive quarters of no growth. That means we could get that for this 3rd quarter and the the 4th quarter and we would, then technically be in one. That may happen now.

Yeah, right. Because we all know how well Congress has acted on it up until now.....NOT. The Bush administration warned them 17 times just this year of what was coming. They FINALLY passed something in July.....too little; too late. NOT to mention all the times the Bush administration warned them of the problems at Fannie and Freddie going all the way back to 2001. The Congress and the Senate have really shirked their duty on this one. They hate this President so much they'd rather see the country go to hell in a handbasket than to do their jobs.

Truly sad for all of us. Only way to remedy it and get back on our feet is to toss the Congress and Senate bums out on their behinds.

Democrats going against this bill and republican voting for this bill?

Hmmm, that was like the least likely scenario to me. I either expected both candidates to vote no or yes. Or for McCain and the republicans to vote no, yet making sure it had 60 votes.

If the democrats go against the bill, and it doesn't pass the short term effect will be very high. They are too much of pansies and so is their constituency to do that.

The democrat party is by definition populist. The last thing they will do is ANYTHING they think might end up being unpopular.

Actually, I am just going to take that back.

They WILL vote yes, don't fool yourselves. They just want everyone to know how *against* it they really are before signing the check.

This bailout plan is ridiculous and irresponsible. Even the Democrats are saying so.
