Default Adding to the Bailout: Car & Student Loan Debt.

http://www.washtimes.com/news/2008/s...quietly-added/

Pop quiz: How does the federal government, who cant decide on the color of (*)(*)(*)(*), in less then a week, create an entirely new policy for the economy and the markets?

Now they are trying to add student & car loan debt to the $700 billion dollar bailout plan. This is called corporate welfare folks. Socialism at its root.

Question I have is why is Chris Dodd and Barney Frank still chairing thier committees on anything? They are neck deep in this mess.

Like I said before, give the government a corner of the table, and before long they will own the entire thing. Our founding fathers warned us of an encroaching federal government, meddling in our daily lives. A government that can give you anything, can also take it all away.

Harry Reid is out there wondering what McCain is going to do. Why? Does the world revolve around McCain? You are the head of the Senate Reid, its about high time you started acting like it. Show some (*)(*)(*)(*)ing leadership and actually do something, or get the hell out of the way and let someone else deal with it, since you are obviously to inept to do anything. Where is Obama Reid? Is he waiting for the wind to blow to see which way to go? Some kind of leadership there.

Congratulations Americans! Your reluctance to take responsibility for your own actions, has and may cause us all to lose out. Keep asking more from your government, one day you will realize that the tightening pressure you feel is not caused by anything but the ball and chain, and the total lose of freedom.

Morning The Hat!

I swear I'm not doing this to (*)(*)(*)(*) you off, but dang! Has there been anything said about hold current the student loans have to be?
I've been disabled for going on 9 years now.
That's disabled according to Social Security. Not exactly a cake walk to get approved.
I've got a student loan from, oh, the early 90's I guess.
It was a trade school type thing. It was later shut down for fraud.
Anywhoo, being as how I often don't have enough money for things like food and medicine, it's not really been a priority of mine to pay off the student loan thingy.
I have to say, this is one bandwagon I'd jump on in a heartbeat.

I still love you man!

Well heck, I have a mortgage I'd like to dump and 3 kids college education. My business could also use around $50 million for R+D which is a spit compared to other bailouts. Where is this gravy train and how do I get "MINE" ?

I am with ya sec!

I got 5 kids, a mortgage, I CAN AFFORD, an SUV note, and am in the market to buy a boat and a 4 wheeler. Can I get all that payed for by the government with ya?

Ya know what. I think we should just all go to work and every penny we earn, just go to the fed. Then we can just go to the store and grab whatever the hell we want off the shelf. Isnt that where we are headed? Government subsidized everything?

**SIGH**

Quote:
Although it was a major addition to what was already the nation's largest-ever bailout, it did not become part of the debate between Democrats and the Treasury over details of the program. A Monday counterproposal by Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher J. Dodd included such consumer loans as well as mortgages, just as the Treasury's draft did Saturday night.
There's plenty of blame to go around. A lot of the blame goes to people that have since left congress in favor of K Street. The die was cast on this mess before Dodd and Frank became chairmen, while they were only Ranking Members in the GOP-controlled congress. If the GOP didn't want this to happen, the congressional actions that created the environment would have never made it out of committee.

The fact is, the financial sector is going to be in a world of hurt as long as everyday Americans are getting squeezed on all sides by artificially inflated energy prices, high grocery bills, a shrinking job market, and falling home values. You could print money by the tractor-trailer load and hand it out to Wall St., but until you fix the circumstances throttling consumers, it's pissing up a rope.

Here's something to chew on:

The median home price fell 7.7% from 1Q 2007 to 1Q 2008. 1Q 2007 median price was $212,600. 1Q 2008 median price was $196,300. An average of those two prices yeilds an average price of $204,450 for the period 1Q 2007 to 1Q 2008.

SOURCE

From August 2007 to August 2008, there were approximately 770,000 home foreclosures. Using that above average for the period, we see a financial hit to loan holders of $157,426,500,000.

SOURCE

Not all of those loans were due to banks making loans to high-risk applicants. Add to that the fact that if someone can't afford to pay their mortgage, they likely can't pay their student loans, car payments, or credit card loans, and you get the near-seizing of the credit market that we have seen over the last week.

If the bailout only throws money at Wall St. without doing something to alleviate the crises around the kitchen tables across the country, it is doomed to fail before the ink is dry on the documents.
