Just a thought... Do you think the WH invitation to Obama might be a distancing move on McCain's part? What I mean is.. If Bush meets with only McCain it would just further cement the two as equals in terms of leadership. By inviting Obama it looks like he's reaching out to "whomever" becomes the next president as opposed to the one he wants to be the next president.

McCain orders Obama to DC? He can't do it without looking like he's following McCain's lead. The President of the United States asks McCain and Obama to come to DC? Sure! Why not? He's the President. Now... as the story progresses... what will people remember? Bush calls a meeting with Congressional Leaders, McCain and Obama? or... Bush takes orders from McCain, folds and cringes, meekly calls for a meeting. Don't be such a naif.
