Should there not be a deal reached on the bailout by Friday John McCain's campaign is proposing to hold the first presidential debate a week later when the sole vice presidential debate was originally slated to take place, a senior aide said tonight.

McCain and Barack Obama's planned debate in Oxford, Mississippi, Friday would be moved to St. Louis on October 2nd, when Sarah Palin and Joe Biden were slated to debate.

In turn, the vice presidential forum would be held "a little later" in Oxford, according to this aide.

However, this official stressed that they were open to other proposals about the debate calendar.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton said they intended to debate McCain Friday in Mississippi as planned.

"We’re not inclined to do this," Burton wrote in an email. "There is a schedule agreed upon by both campaigns and we are sticking to it."

So the truth comes to the light, This further let's me know what the McCain camp was truly attempting to accomplish with his campaign suspension. This completely makes me sick and shows another feeble attempt by the McCain camp to keep Palin under lock and key!

It's speculative, but it doesn't look good. Of all the dates the Presidential debate could've been rescheduled for... his camp chose the VP slated date, without offering a date for that to take place if it were post-poned. Doesn't make much sense.

The thing is, those people in Mississippi have been planning this event for a year and a half. Hotels have been booked solid for months. If this gets canceled, people will be pissed. I'm sure lots of people have already purchased plane tickets and such as well.

Of course it's speculative but this entire move by McCain reeks of bull(*)(*)(*)(*). No one in there right mind will believe he is suspending his campaign in order to get things resolved. If he were concerned he would have suspended his camp a week ago..This is the sort of thing that Americans are completely fed up with.

I hope this is either not true or clears up quick. Wasn't it John McCain who was so eager to debate Obama a few short months ago, and now when the real debates come around, he wants to push them back? This is madness.

Unfortunately my fried, its appearing to be ringing true. Cnn was reporting the same thing earlier when i was watching..i don't think that McCain has any issues debating Obama i feel that he is nervous about Biden debating Palin, thats the only conclusion that would make since out of this..
