Default NY, a GOP losing battle

Living on Long Island, I am told time and again that my republican vote is
wasted here in New York. My property taxes are $8000 a year while those
living in the boroughs of New York City pay less than a quarter of that amount. The schools my children attend are the best and that is my main
reason for living here. Yet over and over, we are reminded of how bad the
city schools are. If city dwellers are willing to pay the same amount of taxes we pay here on LI, they would be able to improve their schools. Or
perhaps they would prefer to raise our taxes to pay for their improvements.
So though we pay the largest amount of taxes in NY here on Long Island, I
will go to the polls on election day and cast my vote. I teach my children
by example and since they were old enough to walk, I have brought them
into the voting booth with me. I urge all those living in democratic states,
to go to the polls and cast your vote and teach our children that even though
we can't always win, we must stay in the game.

Dude, dont ever let anyone tell you your vote does not count. Even if Bush does not win NY (which im guessing he wont) you are participating in democracy, and that is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing. I applaud you for teaching your children the wonders of our country and the freedom we have because of our democratic process. Voter turnout is still low, and if more people voted, more people's opinions would be represented.

So in conclusion.....dont let anyone get you down. You are supporting your candidate and that is all that matters

Even though i live upstate in a place called Lewis County we are all still proud of you man. Keep fighting the good fight and never back down on the ideals that you truly believe in because only here in this land can you truly say and practice what you believe in.

Here in Texas, we also know who's sure to win our state whether or not we make the effort to vote. I would never say a vote is wasted unless your guy wins. And keep in mind, sleepy, the democrats have been yelling about the popular vote for four years. So every vote counts, even if it does not have a direct effect on the outcome.

This brings to mind a question that I have been unable to clearly answer using past election results.

In a state like Texas or Massachusetts, in which the electoral vote is well known before the election, who is more likely to vote? i.e. Are Kerry voters in Texas more likely to stay home? Or, are they more likely to be energized into voting? Also, in these states, are people more likely to vote for the third party candidate (to make a statement)?

Default Good questions

Good questions, 12th Man. But I think all the die-hards on both sides still vote. I think it may be likely that those who describe themselves as Independents may not turn out as big as they would in a swing state. But who knows? I would hope that everyody would cast their vote....regardless.
