Obama Wants NRA Ads Banned

The Obama camp has been threatening television and radio stations to keep them from airing anti-Obama ads.


The latest target is the NRA and stations in Pennsylvania.


Earlier this week, the National Rifle Association's Political Victory Fund released a series of radio and television spots to educate gun owners and sportsmen about Barack Obama's longstanding anti-gun record. In response to the NRA-PVF ads, a clearly panicked Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) are doing everything they can to hide Obama's real record by mounting a coordinated assault on the First Amendment.


They have gone to desperate and outrageous lengths to try to silence your NRA by bullying media outlets with threats of lawsuits if they run NRA-PVF's ads.


The Obama camp is particularly angry with an NRA ad entitled "Hunter" which lays out Obama's record on gun control.

Other NRA ads include "Way of Life" and another focusing on Joe Biden's record, "Defend Freedom, Defeat Obama."


This week, Obama's campaign general counsel Bob Bauer wrote seeking to censor the ads at stations in Pennsylvania.


"Unlike federal candidates, independent political organizations do not have a 'right to command the use of broadcast facilities,'" Bauer writes. "Moreover, you have a duty 'to protect the public from false, misleading or deceptive advertising.'"


"This advertising is false, misleading, and deceptive," Bauer continued. "We request that you immediately cease airing this advertising."


The NRA says Obama's camp are sending out these "intimidating cease and desist letters" to cable operators and television stations, threatening their FCC licenses if they run the ads.


The NRA charged that "Obama and the DNC have been using strong-arm tactics reminiscent of Chicago machine politics to try and cover up the truth and silence NRA by forcing the stations to assist them in hiding Obama's radical anti-gun record."


And now, Obama and the DNC have opened a new front in their assault on your First Amendment rights by calling on their followers to contact these station managers to demand that the stations not run NRA-PVF's ads.


NRA stands behind the accuracy of these ads, and NRA attorneys have responded to the Obama campaign's despicable and abusive attempt to trample on the First Amendment by sending a thorough rebuttal to station managers. This rebuttal clearly and conclusively refutes the Obama campaign's fallacious claims that the ads are inaccurate.

this does not surprise me. Obama has been keeping all the negative truth about himself out of the media from the begining. When is the last time you heard his middle name used? Have you heard anything on the news about his approval rating amonst the latino community in Illinois? I have, except it wasn't on a national news program it was on MIND. A channel that is supposed to expose your mind to new things. This report was news to me because I had no idea some of the people from his state are not very happy with him. When you listen to the national news programs there is no mention of this type of disapproval in his own state. This type of controlling the media should not be allowed to go on. How are people supposed to make an educated decision about thier vote when the information they are given is tainted.

Obama is in another race besides the Presidential Race. He is in a race against his own reputation. He hopes that election day will come and go before the people of America learn the truth about this liberal socialist.

I'm sorry, what does Obama's middle name have to do with negative truth? His middle name is just that... a name. It doesn't shape his ideals. It doesn't define him. Why should it matter?

As for the matter of his aproval rating among latinos in Illinois... what is it? You just said you know the answer... so now Im curious.

If obama wins, the country will survive and hopefully be all the wiser in 4 years about how he was elected. Axelrod is running a great campaign. Simply read posts on this or other forums from those that follow Obama and easily dismiss facts. Many are just so hungry for anything different that rational thinking has been tossed aside in exchange for a leap of faith.

No, but it is typical of fascists. It does seem that fascism and socialism go hand in hand though! Obama needs to be exposed for the socialist and fascist that he is.

Facts don't matter. Relationships and associations don't matter. That is where this election has gone. The Obama campaign, by design, is about Obama the personality, not the best person for the job.

Simply step back and look at how it's been run. You can frustrate yourself all day long but you must understand how and why the followers are so loyal. It has nothing to do with his political accomplishments, experience etc. The marketing job has been first class all the way. In the end, it's more difficult on the buyers when they discover that reality doesn't match the myth and then buyers remorse kicks in. If obs wins, 4 years is all he will get.

The housing debacle will still need years to correct itself, increased taxes will drive up inflation and cause job loss. Euphoria can't create jobs, sell houses or tame radical terrorists from other parts of the world.

Again, an uneducated claim about the Obama campaign. Oh, and XVZ, the righties are fascists, not liberals. Get your history and political definitions straight.

thanks for your opinion. If you look at the campaign, starting with the Democrat primary, Obama himself was the issue, not his capabilities. I do not fault Axelrod at all but admire him for being able to pull this off. It's brilliant marketing and thus I don't understand why you would not be proud of that and instead made a snide comment??? It's about getting to the White House, no less, no more.

McCain should have selected a marketing firm as good as Axelrods. I think it was absolutely brilliant and the Republicans should learn from this that the market has changed and they need to move more toward a packaged, sound bite campaign process in the future.
