Default Putin says re-electing Bush important

Putin urges voters to back BushBy CNN Moscow Bureau Chief Jill Dougherty
Monday, October 18, 2004 Posted: 7:08 AM EDT (1108 GMT)

MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin says terrorist attacks in Iraq are aimed at preventing the re-election of U.S. President George W. Bush and that a Bush defeat "could lead to the spread of terrorism to other parts of the world."Putin, speaking Central Asian Cooperation Organization summit in Tajikistan Monday, made his most overt comments of support so far for the re-election of Bush for a second term.

"Any unbiased observer understands that attacks of international terrorist organizations in Iraq, especially nowadays, are targeted not only and not so much against the international coalition as against President Bush," Putin said.

"International terrorists have set as their goal inflicting the maximum damage to Bush, to prevent his election to a second term.

"If they succeed in doing that, they will celebrate a victory over America and over the entire anti-terror coalition," Putin said.

"In that case, this would give an additional impulse to international terrorists and to their activities, and could lead to the spread of terrorism to other parts of the world."

Putin noted that American voters will not decide the election just on Iraq.

"Because of this we must take a realistic approach and be prepared for any development of events," he said. "We respect any choice the American people will make."

President Putin made it clear Russia remained opposed to the war in Iraq.

"Today, our views on that differ from the views of President Bush," he said.

Default Not a global test

I totally agree.....it is our election and we will decide it. But you know we're constantly getting this spin about how the world doesn't like Bush? That's the only reason I posted it....

At least Putin recognizes that Bush is doing a good job on fighting terrorism and that the terrorists would see it as a win if Bush is defeated. No "global test" here. This doesn't even have anything to do with a global test. The global test is Kerry's idea of what needs to take place BEFORE making a decision on Ameirca's national security. Has nothing to do with this post.

Default Talk is cheap

Why won't ex-KGB Russian Dictator and Bush's good friend Vladimir Putin put his money where his mouth is and send troops to Iraq and/or Afghanistan. That will add a lot of credibility to his empty statements.

Default JP5, I wouldn't get so excited by this...

An endorsement by Putin may very well sway voters NOT to vote for Bush.

It's almost like Castro saying, "Hey, Americans. Vote for Kerry!"

It would be a huge backfire.

Ken you are right on target, JP5 Got the wrong spokesman for this one.

I do not care what some foreigner has to say who we elect as our president. I especially do not want to hear from a KGB thug.

Putin is looking for something from us and he is betting that Bush is the most likely to succeed so Putskii is getting his brownie points in the bank.

I don't trust any Communist or a so-called former Communist.

Default Putin for Bush!

Russian President Putin endorses President Bush for President. He states
that Bush is the most effective on the War on Terror. Even though Russia
did not join us in the coalition, Putin says the insurgency in Iraq is all due to
their hate and fear of President Bush. Though political leaders aren't supposed to endorse a president, the Russian newspapers have already
picked up on this. Let's see how the democrats will spin this one.
