Default Want 3 dollar a gallon gas? Vote for Bush!

I said it in another forum six months ago and was poo poo'ed by the neo-con brain(?) trust.

how is this in any way related to current events?

By the way, the Saudi's recently agreed to increase production, which means lower gas prices. But I bet you didn't know that, or you didn't care to listen.

Default Hans....

You complain about this not being a current event, which it obviously isn't, but half of your threads are not current events either, most of them are little hell raisers bashing on the left wing, for reasons I don't understand.
Best wishes,
Nick

Default Gas prices

Gas prices have nothing to do with the president. It's typical for gas to go up during the summer months. In fact, they went up the summer before Bill Clinton. And he got re-elected. So, not the doomsday scenario you give us.

B.S. Bush has nothing to do with gas prices. No president can do much about them really except encourage more refineries and drilling. Bush at least tried later. There has not been a new refinery built since the 70's and some olderones have been closed because of enviromental regulations. You can have all the oil you like but if the refining capacity is not there, its meaningless.

Surging world demand in a recovering global economy is what has driven up gas prices, which respond to the mundane forces of supply and demand. Chinas new growing demand for oil is a factor as well. How does Bush control that?Nothing is so unedifying as watching someone feign economic ignorance for the benefit of voters genuinely ignorant of basic economics.
Oil expert Jerry Taylor, of the Cato Institute, compares the idea of jawboning the saudis to asking the clerk at your grocery store to lower the price of produce: You can ask, but it's not going to get you anywhere.

Its funny. When Bob Woodward's book came out these same leftists were screaming about a conspiracey between Bush and the princes to keep prices low for his reelection. Now they go all the weay over to the other end.

We can just as easily say...if you want a far worse 9/11 vote for Kerry. Just as meaningless at this point.

Default Not all bad.

Actually in some ways the increased cost in fuel might make us all reassess the overuse of a dirty fuel.

Cheers,

Trot

As you contemplate those numbers spinning by on the gas pump, here is another number to remember: 1976.

That’s the last time an oil refinery was built in these United States, thanks in large part to the Not-In-My-Backyard (NIMBY) syndrome cultivated by an environmental movement that has successfully anathematized all things chemical and carbon.

There are, of course, other reasons for the latest spike in gasoline prices — prominently including the return to robust economic growth — but even if oil supplies could be suddenly expanded, refiners would have a tough time churning out more gasoline.

In 1981, according to the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association, 321 refineries pumped out 18.6 million barrels a day of gasoline. Today only 149 refineries, run by 60 companies in 33 different states, pump out 16.8 million barrels of gasoline a day — almost two million barrels a day less. They are operating at 93 percent of capacity, well above the industrial average, with little time left for maintenance and upgrades.

Look who's calling someone a troll... lol. The Troll King himself. Funny little troll boy, Hans.

Hey, I have an idea: Bush should put a $0.50 per gallon tax on gas and apply those funds to his campaign... Muhahahahahahaha!
