Thread: Climate skepttic scientist reverses his position, CC is man made

  1. Default Climate skepttic scientist reverses his position, CC is man made

when the real scientists finally accept the AGW research maybe the flat earth members will give up their cosmic rays pseudo science....nah! no chance of that

Richard Muller a physicist and climate change sceptic who founded the Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature (Best) project, said he was surprised by the findings. "We were not expecting this, but as scientists, it is our duty to let the evidence change our minds." He added that he now considers himself a "converted sceptic" and his views had undergone a "total turnaround" in a short space of time.

"Our results show that the average temperature of the Earth's land has risen by 2.5F over the past 250 years, including an increase of 1.5 degrees over the most recent 50 years. Moreover, it appears likely that essentially all of this increase results from the human emission of greenhouse gases,"

Over the weekend, UC-Berkeley professor Richard Muller outed himself as a "converted" climate "skeptic" in the New York Times after his Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature project concluded the earth's surface temperature had increased 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit in the past 250 years and one and a half degrees in the past 50 years, likely entirely because of human industrial activity.

What makes this newsworthy, according to The Guardian , is that BEST had received $150,000 from the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation, whose namesake also runs the climate skeptic research program The Heartland Institute.

    From Muller's op-ed:
"...our record is long enough that we could search for the fingerprint of solar variability, based on the historical record of sunspots. That fingerprint is absent. Although the I.P.C.C. allowed for the possibility that variations in sunlight could have ended the “Little Ice Age,” a period of cooling from the 14th century to about 1850, our data argues strongly that the temperature rise of the past 250 years cannot be attributed to solar changes. This conclusion is, in retrospect, not too surprising; we’ve learned from satellite measurements that solar activity changes the brightness of the sun very little."
    ...
"How definite is the attribution to humans? The carbon dioxide curve gives a better match than anything else we’ve tried. Its magnitude is consistent with the calculated greenhouse effect — extra warming from trapped heat radiation. These facts don’t prove causality and they shouldn’t end skepticism, but they raise the bar: to be considered seriously, an alternative explanation must match the data at least as well as carbon dioxide does. Adding methane, a second greenhouse gas, to our analysis doesn’t change the results.

And for funding Heartland, the Koch Brothers and anybody who fund or have anything to do with Heartland should get busted, for seditious conspiracy, but hey, so should any Democrats or Republicans, who deliberately gridlock and boondoggle, in the course of violating the US Constitution, professionally.

First the Koch brothers didn't' fund any skeptic research at the heartland institute. That claim comes from a proven fraudulent memo with the probable forger being warmmonger Peter Gleick. The forged memo wrongfully attributed money that had gone to a study on health insurance to climate change because the forger didn't know what the financing codes in the stolen heartland funding documents meant. The wrong attribution of where the Koch brothers money had gone in the fraudulent memo was one of the major pieces of evidence proving that the memo was a fraud. So, this article begins with a lie.

Second, Muller was never a skeptic. As our own member Poptech showed quite clearly.

"If Al Gore reaches more people and convinces the world that global warming is real, even if he does it through exaggeration and distortion - which he does, but he’s very effective at it - then let him fly any plane he wants."
    - Richard Muller, 2008

"There is a consensus that global warming is real. ...it’s going to get much, much worse." - Richard Muller, 2008

"Let me be clear. My own reading of the literature and study of paleoclimate suggests strongly that carbon dioxide from burning of fossil fuels will prove to be the greatest pollutant of human history. It is likely to have severe and detrimental effects on global climate." - Richard Muller, 2003

Muller claiming to be a skeptic is just a show to convince people who dont know any better.

Third Muller's claims have twice failed to pass peer review and his own co-author calls his attribution claims "way over simplistic and not at all convincing in my opinion".

I believe you, when you say Muller was never a proper skeptic. Maybe he was a DENIER. Muller advocated fracking, in an interview, televised, on Democracy NOW! Whatever he was, since he's a fracker, he is like a drug dealer, trying to sell his brand of speed, in bath-houses, like that crank will slow down the spread, of HIV.

Next, you have an interesting case, how the Koch brothers never funded Heartland. But a lot of links are up, claiming Koch-owned corporations gave money and media, to Heartland, since it was founded, in 1984:

Americans for Prosperity, late conference co-sponsor, has received nearly $5.8 Million from the Koch foundation. David Koch is the Chair of Americans for Prosperity Foundation.
Heritage leads all Koch fundees having received over $4.4M since 1997
Reason Foundation has received at total of $1.8M
Capital Research Center hauled in $660K
CEI got $521K in Koch money
Frontiers of Freedom has received $175K
Ayn Rand Institute, Center for Study of CO2 and Global Change, Independent Institute and the John Locke Foundation all received Koch money.
Democracy NOW! reported Charles Koch funded the Muller study. See David's name, on the Prosperity Foundation chair? Hey, now. This may be where the family splits.

    Leaked Internal Documents 2012
In February of 2012, internal strategy and funding documents detailing the Heartland Institute's campaign of global warming denial were released to DeSmogBlog . The documents included strategies for raising funds from Koch brothers foundations, as well as a plan to create school curriculums that cast doubt on global warming science. See Polluterwatch's ongoing investigation for more details.

Though Heartland has claimed that one of the documents was a "fake", independent analysis has cleared Peter Gleick, the climate scientist who obtained the documents, of all accusations of forgery.
So much, for your claims about Peter Gleick.

    Corporate Sponsors Drop Funding
Media attention on Heartland’s extreme climate stance , and questionable tactics has caused major corporations to distance themselves from Heartland. In 2007 ExxonMobil, a major funder of climate science attacks, stopped funding the Institute, saying they could no longer support groups that “serve as a distraction” to the climate issue. However, major corporations like Nucor and Pfizer still fund Heartland’s activities. A full list of donors is available on Polluterwatch. A breakdown of corporate funding to the Heartland Institute is also available from Forcast the Facts.

    ------------------------

I don't know, dude! I think Heartland is up to no good, I think they are going down, I think the Koch money got to them, since Heartland was founded, I think corporations are fleeing, from Heartland, and I think there is probably a split, between Dave and Charlie, over all this. Your post is interesting, but you need to read more things that come up on searches, than whatever Heartland or their stooge Anthony Watt blog up.

There's the new mantra of the deniers, as they desperately try to deny the reality of the BEST studies that once again debunk their favorite myths, as many other climate scientists have repeatedly done in the past. Let's finish off this BS right here with some straight talk about the denier cultists' confusion over the meaning of the term 'skeptic'.

In fact, Dr. Muller was a skeptic in the proper scientific sense of withholding judgment until he felt persuaded by the evidence. The deluded denier cultists have been bamboozled into thinking that 'skeptic' means a close-minded, anti-scientific, brainwashed dupe like themselves, picking and choosing their data to shore up an ideological position. There is actually an enormous difference between being a true 'skeptic' and being a brainwashed 'denier'.

When a reporter asked him recently if it's really accurate to say he was ever a sceptic, Muller replied: "I have considered myself only to be a properly sceptical scientist. Some people have called me a denier - no, that's completely wrong. If anything, I was agnostic. I just hope that some people like you will read my books and papers, and read what I say - not what people say I say.""

Actually google returned no results. The fact you are still pushing this nonsensical argument is rather amusing though. Simply calling the documents fake doesn't make it so. You are not God.

Heartland alleged one document, of several is a "fake," but Gleick didn't forge it, according to the report. In any case, the allegations of several avenues of Koch involvement are so various, the interesting question is whether David Koch is the family schmuck. Who continues to support Heartland, now that corporations are pulling away, but common idiots are still rallying, behind the Heartland media? What was Charles' Koch's role, since he funded Muller's research, and WHEN WILL YOU QUIT BEING RIDICULOUS, Inquisitor?

Muller is or was a "skeptic," since he didn't accept ANTHROPOGENIC Global Warming, but he says the dataset he has now confirms HUMAN CAUSED Global Warming.

Even so, Muller is just offering deniers a fallback position, since he advocates fracking, which is like letting meth dealers pass out free needles, at an HIV-infested bath-house, while claiming their crank is cleaner, so patrons should go ahead and continue unsafe sex and sharing needles, to pass their HIV and make the AIDS epidemic worse. Only immediate development of CO2-neutral biomass and radical re-greening of deserts and polluted areas will help alleviate what is happening, which will kill species and families, plenty.

Global warming is causing climate change, which is leading us into MASS EXTINCTION EVENT 6, just like every other time of climate change, triggered by a rapid rise in CO2 has led the Earth to warming and a mass extinction.

Pay attention, Inquisitor. EVERY TIME THE CO2 GOES UP, FAST, past the common Pleistocene-Holocene optimum of 280 ppm, THE EARTH SUFFERS A MASS EXTINCTION.

Guess what is going to happen, to deniers? E-X-T-I-N-C-T-I-O-N. Our CO2 and CH4 concentrations are increasing, faster, than before any previous mass extinction AND the relatively recent (56 m.y.a.) PETM event.

Guess what is going to happen, to people who keep trying to deny climate change, with garbage? For now, you get to keep posting garbage, like straw-man arguments. NFL.
