Default Kurds Soon Deploy to Baghdad

The more Iraqi forces in Baghdad fighting for their own country, the better.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- A Kurdish army brigade in northern Iraq is undergoing intensive urban combat training as it readies for deployment in the latest Baghdad security operation and is expected to take on the capital's Mehdi Army Shiite militia, its commander said Saturday.

Meanwhile, three Iraqi generals told The Associated Press that the Iraqi commander who will lead the overall Baghdad security mission was the government's second choice and only got the job after the U.S. military objected to the first officer named to the post by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.

"We will head to Baghdad soon," said Brig. Gen. Nazir Assem Korran, commander of the 1st Infantry Brigade, 2nd Division of the Iraqi army.

"We have 3,000 soldiers who are currently undergoing intensive training especially in urban combat and how the army should act inside a city."

Korran, in the Kurdish northern city of Irbil, said he did not know how the operation would unfold, but said the Defense Ministry in Baghdad had asked his brigade to take part in the security operation along with thousands of other Iraqi and U.S. troops."

Default Good for the Kurds

The extra training should help the Kurds in the final Civil War...the one that will fully develop after the US finally gives up trying to find an American solution to an Arab War.

Default OH My LORD!!!!

Who is the (Edited for language) genius who sent KURDS to fight SHIITES in BAHGDAD...

this is the dumbest Idea I've ever heard, that militia represents The Mahdi!

The Mahdi Army itself is a sworn enemy of the Kurdish Peshmerga militias and is currently spearheading resistance of Kurdish moves to annex the oil-rich city of Kirkuk to their autonomous region...and their represented in the intermind government of Iraq..

http://www.azzaman.com/english/index...-08%5Ckurd.htm

^read that....IT WAS THE KURDS IDEA^^

We're talking about un-uniformed MILITIAS, fighting this engagement in Iraq.......

"Kurdish leaders have decided to deploy their own militias in the current fighting in Baghdad where government troops aided by U.S. forces have launched yet another campaign to secure the restive city."

GREAT...just what baghdad needs, more goat-herders with Kalishnokovs...

this is such a bad-move......these two groups are the CENTRAL reason why theres so much secretarian violence throughout the country...and now we're having them "face-off" in the GREEN ZONE...

this is crazy...its gonna be ineffective, 20 thousand troops with full US airsupport havn't been able to acheive what we HOPE these under-funded militias will acheive.....

3 weeks ago, we forced them to recognize each other democratically, now, we're telling them to "take it outside."

this is OFFICIALLY...the US giving up in Iraq, I'm glad you like the Sugar Coating, hope that helps it go down smooth...

20 thousand more troops to baghdad, to get involved with this ridiculous, obviously religous civil war....what an ugly "plan."

Default Kurds weigh in

Good !!! !!! let's see if the the Kurd's can keep the two Arab split ends from killing each other off. My guess is that the two Arab members of the population will weigh in upon the Kurds

anyone taking on the Shiite militias. Until they are engaged, the rest of the pacification is a joke. Bring it on!
