Default Iraq Petition Presses for Withdrawal of U.S. Troops

Quote:
BAGHDAD, May 11 — A majority of Iraq’s parliament has signed a petition for a legislative timetable governing a withdrawal of American troops from Iraq, several parliamentarians said today.

The withdrawal would only take place if the Iraqi security forces became strong enough to ensure that an American departure would not create a security vacuum or make the sectarian conflict worse, the petition’s sponsors said.

“The troop withdrawal would move in parallel with the building of Iraqi troops, but their stay should not be for a long time,” said Saleh al-Igili, a member of the parliamentary bloc allied with the anti-American Shiite cleric Moktada al-Sadr, which sponsored the petition. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/11/wo...1cnd-iraq.html

Default And?...

Note this section:

The withdrawal would only take place if the Iraqi security forces became strong enough to ensure that an American departure would not create a security vacuum or make the sectarian conflict worse, the petition’s sponsors said.

This kinda negates what the Democrats want, because this is a better plan, as you can
see it works to make the Democrats happy while not setting defined date.

So, what was your point of this thread?

Default What suites my needs at any given time........

OH well the opinions of a meaningless puppet government of an occupied nation do not matter.

Your words not mine.

Anyway ..important bit that further makes this worthless from your sides perspective-

The withdrawal would only take place if the Iraqi security forces became strong enough to ensure that an American departure would not create a security vacuum or make the sectarian conflict worse, the petition’s sponsors said

That was fun.

That's right; just because puppet government wants something doesn't mean they can have it.

Default Time to chime in

I have supported our efforts in Iraq to help the Iraqis become a free and democratized society, and help fight the radical terrorism that is so prevalent throughout the entire middle east. They now want us to go....well then, it's time to go. The truth be told, screw the entire middle east, they are without a doubt the sand pit of planet earth (literally). That sand pit has been the nightmare of this world since the dawn of time. The USA has been overly generous with good intentions of helping oppressed people and it is now time to go, and if the destroy each other, well so be it, they will reap what they sew.

If you plant honesty, you will reap trust.

If you plant goodness, you will reap friends.

If you plant humility, you will reap greatness.

If you plant perseverance, you will reap contentment.

If you plant consideration, you will reap perspective.

If you plant hard work, you will reap success.

If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation.

If you plant faith, you will reap a harvest.

The problem is, you can't planet anything in sand and expect it to produce any of the above. Their harvest will always be death, as it has always been.

Hmmmm....seems we have conflicting reports on this subject:

"Worried Congress' support for Iraq is deteriorating rapidly, Baghdad dispatched senior officials to Capitol Hill this week to warn members one-on-one that pulling out U.S. troops would have disastrous consequences."

Iraqi Officials Discourage U.S. Pullout
By ANNE FLAHERTY
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Worried Congress' support for Iraq is deteriorating rapidly, Baghdad dispatched senior officials to Capitol Hill this week to warn members one-on-one that pulling out U.S. troops would have disastrous consequences.

The lobbying push targeted Republicans and Democrats alike, but focused primarily on those considered influential on the war debate. On Thursday, hours before the House voted to limit funds for the war, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Barham Saleh met with more than 30 House Republicans and more than a half-dozen senators, including Sens. Harry Reid, D-Nev., John Warner, R-Va., and Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y.

Saleh - a Kurdish politician highly regarded by U.S. officials and who speaks impeccable English - said he came to Capitol Hill to convey the "imperative of success" in Iraq.

"Iraq is a central battleground in this historic conflict" against terrorism, he said in a brief interview after meeting with Reid, the Senate majority leader.

His trip came on the heels of a visit by Mowaffak al-Rubaie, the national security adviser to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, along with three other senior advisers, according to the Iraqi embassy. The New York Times first reported al-Rubaie's visit on Tuesday

That's right, You keep on banging your head against the wall. If the parliament doesn't want us out, why won't Al-Maliki (#1 puppet) support the petition? IMO, a petition leading to troop withdrawal wouldn't be good for an Iraq Prime Minister that hasn't even lived in the country for over 30 years until just recently.
