Default "Like Rabbits They Ran..."

My Marine friend wrote me and told me about how they won't fight. They run. The only way they fight is like scared little rabbits.....to set roadside IED's and suicide bombs. They are afraid to fight the U.S. military Instead----they run and hide....and use women and children as shields.

BAQOUBA, Iraq - American attack helicopters fired on al-Qaida militants trying to slip past an Iraqi checkpoint on Friday, the military said, killing 17 of them in the fourth day of an offensive to oust the fighters entrenched in this city an hour’s drive north of Baghdad.

More than three-quarters of the city’s al-Qaida leadership fled before the Americans moved in to Baqouba this week, U.S. officials said Friday, but not before drone planes spotted fighters planting dozens of roadside bombs on the main highway into the city, capital of volatile and extremely dangerous Diyala province."

They will continue to run until we leave. No longer facing overwhelming firepower, they will drain each other of fluids.
You can thank the War-Criminal-In-Chief for letting lose the dogs of war and keep a little praise for yourself for waving his bloody flag.

Lightly armed insurgents will *always* avoid stand-up fights with heavily armed soldiers, especially ones as technologically advanced as ours. That's just common sense. They win by persisting, not by getting slaughtered in one-sided engagements.

I'm neither supporting the insurgents nor denigrating our soldiers. Just saying that your point is somewhat nonsensical.

Of course they run. They are over matched militarily. That's the only way an insurgency can prevail.
The American Revolutionaries did the same to the much larger British army, and here we are!

Default Good thing you are not a General

Lets see I have a rock and you have a tank who do you think will win that fight.

This is what happens when you get second hand information and hearsay.

Peace.

Default War Prayer

JP - I found a little prayer for you, and the others who believe if we kill enough people surely the end the conflict in Iraq will end. Mark Twain wrote it:

http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/making/warprayer.html

"....O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst,... broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it -- for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love..."

Depends. If you have tanks, and I have generations of people willing to throw rocks- you will lose.

Tanks cost money, rocks are free. Somewhere, someone is going to get sick and tired of buying tanks and not seeing much progress.

Ask the Russians how it went in Afghanistan. Ask the British how it was in Northern Ireland. Ask the Israelis how easy it's been in the Palestinian territories.

Ah yes.....let's just all get rid of our weapons, join hands in a circle and sing coombahyah as we dance with flowers in our hair. Then all will be right with the world and we shall have peace forever. The bleeding heart liberals say it is so....so it must be so.

Geez. What planet are you people from???? This is the main reason we don't trust liberals with our defense.

Once again, you have failed to actually READ what was written. At no point did I, or others suggest that we get rid of our weapons.
If you want to debate, let's debate. Just knock off the mocking. It makes you look ignorant, and childish. (I'm pretty sure that you realize no one was making the argument as you framed it)

We trusted you Neo-Cons with our defense. Has that turned out well?

Your war in Iraq is a dismal failure, and because this administration was so blind, they allowed the Taliban to regain power in Afghanistan.

The ISG specifically stated that our military presence in Iraq is actually making things worse, and suggested that this administration begin to explore diplomatic solutions. Bushco ignored them and started yet another failed adventure; The Surge.

Please open a book sometime, and read history. Imperialism does not work; never has.

Insurgents will outlast a conventional army every time.

Okay, this mindset really pisses me off...

How can anyone possibly believe that the only choices the US has is keep using the same counter-insurgency tactics that have been used for decades or to "do as the liberals do" and pull out while throwing all our guns away?

There are other ways to fight this battle. There are new strategies that could be used to limit exposure of US troops and increase our effectiveness. And yes, some of them involve pulling out of Iraq.

I have to ask the conservatives out there: if we pulled out of Iraq, could we not refit, reorganize, and go back in at a later date prepared for the fight at hand instead of trying stop gap maneuvers now?
