As long as you don't bash this country and act like you truly love it.. and not wanting to throw the constitution under the bus ..so to speak. Our customs are our customs and if they don't suit oh, well.

I love it. PF is like the State Pen. Everyone you ask is innocent.

The only place on this forum flaming isn't allowed is the rules.

I've made my opinions very clear, so you can judge for yourself. Either way, I strongly object to it, and I can't possibly be the only one here that does.

What's with this? These "dare ya" essays do not contribute to a good debate forum as all people should feel welcome to put up their own ideas without wading into a pool of muck before they get started.

I've passed by two or three just this morning, inciting people to argue with some heavy suggestions and I wondered if these were the new "style" we
are adopting or allowing because it's gonna spoil the general give and take with the excellent writers to spend time giving great insight and thoughts.

Last week it was crap on the USA - this week more junk food - I hate to see
a good forum get taken over by this kind of behavior.

Just my take....
Just ignore these threads. We don't need mod interference. The mods are already micromanaging this board beyond reasonable expectations. We don't need them messing things up further.

Seconded. Overt jingoism in response to a point made is technically a personal attack.

Actually, I agree with Agent Zero - I think it is outrageous that even the slightest criticism of American society or foreign policy (by Americans of either political persuasion, who have every right to make such criticisms,) is met with the description 'America hater' from someone. This is an illogical and immature response, and I would like to see it discouraged (preferably by member disapproval). Are some Americans so unsure of the value of their society that they dare not defend it by means of civil discourse? And "If you don't like it here, go somewhere else," is not a persuasive argument.

And as for a thread extolling America's values, this is best done in an international venue by a non-American, otherwise it comes across as jingoism. There is a great deal to like and value in American society, but when I tried to get a thread going on that subject, it was ignored - totally. It becomes obvious that only the opinions of Americans are valued on this subject, (if not on this board,) so I won't bother attempting that any more.

The OP sets the rules... and the person who starts the thread unofficially moderates it. As long as enough people are interested in playing by the rules, the occasional troll is easy to ignore. Trolls don't stick around if they get ignored. (Ignoring trolls is Rule #1)

Bashing is in the eye of the beholder.

Fact: the US is partially responsible for the 9/11 attacks because of it's interventionist foreign policy.

Did I just bash the US?
