Is there a limit to the length of a thread

Truebrit, why did you close the thread on Communism?

While you may have not been interested in the topic a couple of us were having a good rational debate on ideology.

Was a refreshing change to the exchange of slogans and abuse that goes on.

If there is a problem with space then ok let us know.

I'm not sure of this, so this is only my opinion.

I think the only reason that thread was locked was due to it's length. 10 pages 0_o! Make a new thread for the debate and continue, name it a part two or something.

Discussions that become too long, I think are eventually locked. So make it a multi-part discussion. Provide a link to the previous one, and start at it again.

A thread that gets as long and as convulted as the Communism one makes it difficult to follow for new-comers to that thread.

As I said when I locked it, it had nothing to do with the content of the thread, nor the opinions being expressed therein, it was simply getting too large and bulky.

Please feel free to take Spork's advice (and mine in my closing post) to start a new thread on the same lines.

There is no hard and fast rule as to 'how long is too long' but I think that you'd agree 10 pages+ is llong enough for one thread.

Why is there a longest thread record in the stats section? And if a new thread is started won't it be just as hard to follow with started where the last left off?
