what the heck is up with these servers?

So, the typical pattern seems to be, "almost impossible" to get in between 6pm and 2am, any day. Right now (4:08am PST), things are pretty good. At 10pm it's typically "impossible" to get in, and then the freakin' server makes mistakes, like it multi-posts, and it also enters posts into threads without bumping the thread to the top of the forum - just WIERD stuff. SOMETHING definitely isn't working correctly. Oh well, I'm just going to ignore this little problem, since that's what the forum owner(s) seem(s) to be doing - which means, that YOU guys can fix my multiple posts from now on, 'cause I can't be sitting here waiting for an entire hour, just to get in to try to fix a multiple post. So there you go - you want to annoy me, I'll annoy you right back....

I've tried sending a pm via a mod to the administrator before but.

I am interested in taking over, the PF site, and hosting it on my server. I am knowledgable of MySQL, SQL, HTML, PHP and am sure I could get the site going again smoothly.

I've also got a couple of ideas that could be implemented.

If the Admin is not interested in the boards as they should be, why not hand the torch over to someone else?

If anyone knows of how to get in contact with the admin, please let me know. I'd be willing to talk to them about this.

All I can say is pm various mods.
I know some of them have contacts with the owner but I don't recall which.

Also people are pretty content with the powers that be etc here..so any radical changes effecting that wouldn't be looked on that well.

..and finally..there have been a few bad apples who would like nothing more then to get ahold of the strings of power here to get back at people. So you might want to show somehow that you are not one of them.

What a mess. This used to be such a cool forum.

Maybe the site owner died or something. I've never actually seen him/her post on here. It could be on auto-pilot for all we know.

Well, it's a kloodge, but if you just open up a boatload of IE's (like, six or seven at once), then the chances are pretty good that at least one of them will be "in" at any given time.

'Course, this way, you're kinda "time-slicing" your way into the forum, and reading and responding to lots of posts all at once, so you kinda have to be one top of your grame, and also you have to be patient enough so that when a post "doesn't" take, you go back and check first to see whether it made it "halfway" (like, took the text but didn't bump the thread) before you try to post again.

This works, it's kloodgy and cumbersome but it works.

A couple of weeks back I actually offered (via JP) to buy this site a brand new server, if they were having trouble. But the word I got back is, "the owner is often absent and doesn't pay much attention to the site", and so I promptly withdrew the offer, 'cause if the owner don't care, then neither do I.

But yeah, I'm about ready to walk too.

I don't have time to a) sit here and wait a god(*)(*)(*)(*) hour for a post to complete, and b) go back and edit posts repeatedly 'cause they've been multi'd by the errant server or errand software or whatever the POS is that's causing this problem, and c) try to navigate through other peoples' multiple posts....

This situation is completely ridiculous. No self-respecting web site would let this go on for more than a micro-second.

I emailed the owner last week. I told them of the problem, of the fact that many "regulars" are leaving due to the slowness, and that the general morale of the board is dropping.

It's amusing to me that you think I spend a lot of time here. I can assure you that in comparison to yourself, it's but a blink of an eye. I'm further amused that you assume I can fix a server problem when in fact only the owner can. I am no more than any other mod- that is to say I cannot do anything to the board to enhance page loading speeds etc... Essentially I'm a user that has the ability/power to edit posts and move them to other categories. I also have the ability to ban, but can do nothing relating to server issues.

I was just contacted today by the owner saying that we're on a new server and the problem should be fixed. I have no reason to doubt them, but just like you I'll wait and see how things go from here.

Thank you for your patience, but please... stop assuming things about me. I understand your frustration as I have had to deal with the same exact problems you have. Still, there's no reason to lose your temper and expect me to "Get it fixed...'kay?"
