I believe Sadistic_Saviour was the one to introduce "republic of kosovo" as an option in the -country and flag- settings in the user control panel.

Republic of Kosovo is a country which unilaterally declared independence and is not recognized by UN as an independent country. Therefore, it deserves no right to exist within the detail settings of this or any other political forum. Kosovo doesn't even have the majority within the international community (in terms of recognizing it as a country)

State of Palestine is recognized by 100 countries, why doesn't it exist? Because those countries that recognized Palestine are muslim?

Don't apply double standards! If you want this forum to be international (not only US policy based) - then revert such an option.

He created a Kosovo flag that other users could use as their avatar. But he has no access to the flag/country settings in the user control panels.

A country is a country if it is a member of UN. If it isn's - then it merely doesn't exist. Kosovo is out of international organizations.

So what? If a country is not western then it's not a country, is it? While the East had states and history the West was just an unexplored territory of the planet. Palestine is recognized by more countries than Kosovo. Why isn't Palestine within the detail settings?

The world has changed since 18th century, if you haven't noticed. After WW2 mankind established international mechanisms and empowered them to decide which country is a country and which is not. Kosovo is not a country, it is an integral part of Serbia. Period. If Kosovo becomes a member of UN - then I shall not protest anymore.

U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns' recent statements regarding Russia's position on Kosovo elicited surprise in Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"Claiming that our policy in relation to Kosovo affairs is cynical, the American diplomat did not give himself the trouble of thinking what the U.S. line looks like in the settlement. Isn't it an instance of open cynicism to support one, Kosovo-Albanian side, to disregard law for the sake of 'political expediency' and to show indifference to the future of 100,000 Serbs, who are actually being driven into a ghetto in the 21st century?" the Foreign Ministry said in a commentary on Sunday.

"Isn't it cynical to openly humiliate the Serb people and promise Euro-Atlantic prospects to Belgrade in exchange for acceptance of Serbia's split? Is the American argument that the Kosovo case is unique moral, if it means that some have the right to form a state, while others must be denied it?' the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"No sober-mind person will doubt Russia's contribution to the Kosovo settlement. A Russian peacekeeping contingent was in Kosovo as part of KFOR from 1999 to 2004 - the hardest period that involved the greatest risks," it said.

The Russian contingent was removed from Kosovo "given our fundamental disagreement with a unilateral lurch in Kosovo affairs, and the violation of the mandates, defined by UN Security Council Resolution 1244, by an international presence, primarily in relation to the rights of the non-Albanian population.

"Assertions about Russia's isolation' in the Kosovo issue are an obvious distortion of the facts. A unilateral scenario for resolving the problem, being pushed through, is arousing broad concern in the world. A recent discussion of this issue in the UN Security Council showed that most countries would like to see a legitimate solution based on a compromise between Belgrade and Pristina. A declaration calling for further search for a negotiated solution, recently passed by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, signals support for our position," the Foreign Ministry said.

"We need not to be urged, as Nicholas Burns is doing, to issue response statements on Kosovo. This is precisely what we are doing when we are saying the truth, calling things by their proper names, warning honestly about the destructive consequences of encouraged separatism and pointing directly at those whose moves are destroying the world order," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

You do know Kosovo declared dependence under the name of independence, did you not? Are we all oblivious to this fact or am I the only American who understands this? I know there are others...
