Ah the walnut with a mullet look, I will try ted,but I fear ted it is much "deeper" than that my love of Pub grub or any other grub is a "cross" I must get off.

This system wouldn't prevent them from doing that.

I think it's mainly because people get misunderstood quite a lot. It's pretty humorous to see an ultraconservative called a liberal, for example. It happens more than you might think.

Which will save a lot of time. Then they wont have to waste 2 pages of text arguing to find out where they both really stand ideologically.

I think it's a great idea. The only question I have (besides "can it be done"), is who chooses the available labels and the related link.

The Admins should have the final say by vote IMO. But it seems like common sense to use wikipedia for all of them.

Users can suggest labels to the admins, and they can vote on whether or not to add it and if so, what to link it to.

The Wikipedia database is really thorough...I cant imagine an ideology that isn't covered on there.

Address them by the method above. You did the same thing with the issue of adding the Kosovo flag, right? People complained about that...what happened?

Apply the same process to this.

But if we let the user choose the label and what it links to, I suspect we'll be in for no end of mischief.

Yeah...the Admins define the labels. The user chooses which one he wants.

Of course, we also could just do this in our signatures.

Labels would provide consistency. People are more likely to use them because they would be easier to configure.

And signatures have a finite amount of space, which user may want for other things. This way they could have their signature space and this at the same time.

A thought: Wouldn't an Ideoligical label be more accurate if it's was given by others?

Not necessarily. The only fair way to do it (IMO) is to let people apply it themselves.

Then you are a conservative constitutionalist.

The list could be as involved as the Admins want. IMO though, the only limitation would be that there has to be a wikipedia entry for it. If your label is so obscure that wikipedia doest know about it, it probably doesn't deserve it's own label anyway. In the above example, you could be lumped in with all other conservative constitutionalists, even though you don't match it precisely.

Thats part of the reason I defer to Wikipedia...in addition to being fairly accurate and thorough, they are also pretty neutral.

The neocon entry is pretty spot on, and if ANY entry was going to be sabotaged, it would be that one.
