Default New idea for the Forum

This might have been proposed before. But I am going to suggest it anyway. There is one twist to it that might not have been discussed before.

Is there anyway to include tags at the top of every post showing the political affiliation for that user, in the same way that it shows their nation of origin? Does the software allow for that?

My idea is that

1) It be completely voluntary

2) The affiliation would link to the corresponding Wikipedia page.

This would not only allow people a way to recognize the general political views of whoever they are responding to (which would especially be useful for new members) but might educate people on the various political ideologies as well.

I am not suggesting political PARTY affiliation (Democrat, Republican ect..) I am suggesting IDEOLOGICAL affiliation (paleo-conservative, neo-liberal, paleo-libertarian, centrist, anarchist, ect..)

If the software doesnt allow it I suppose it is moot. But I thought it's be a cool option on a political forum.

Is this because people claim to be one thing, yet advocate something else?

I think it's mainly because people get misunderstood quite a lot. It's pretty humorous to see an ultraconservative called a liberal, for example. It happens more than you might think.

I think it's a great idea. The only question I have (besides "can it be done"), is who chooses the available labels and the related link. If the board limits the options, we'll get complaints, and legitimate criticism that a given person's viewpoint is not represented. But if we let the user choose the label and what it links to, I suspect we'll be in for no end of mischief.

Of course, we also could just do this in our signatures.

yes, im certain its possible. it might not be very easy to make it so you can manually type out your inclination and have it turn into a link, but its possible.

just in case, I'm putting reserve on this label for me: Knight Defender of The One True Faith (tm)

A thought: Wouldn't an Ideoligical label be more accurate if it's was given by others?

i dont think so. a lot of people on this forum dont know what certain words mean, even though they use them very often. this includes descriptive, political terms.

But what about those of us that are oddballs?

I'm a conservative constitutionalist with libertarian tendencies!

I think I need a 12 step group....

A) I will now label myself: SEXiEST MAN ALIVE (infact too sexy for my shirt).

B) Now have others label me.

Which label would be more accurate?
