I just don't see the precedent. The word cock is regularly used in a vulgar context.

If there are some words that are banned in certain contexts, than they should be listed. Why have moderators make up the rules when you can easily have a set of written rules?

Anyway...

Here's my reasoning for editing your posts.
1. The use of the word was in the vulgar sense.
2. The post in question really was not adding anything to the topic at hand.
3. Another mod made the original call and I was backing him up.

In retrospect, I would have given more thought to deleting your original message entirely as being inappropriate and not germaine to the topic. Instead, I took the lesser course, hoping that you would take the hint and leave it alone. My bad.

Lastly regarding a "list" of banned words. A list would only be another thing that needs to be maintained and argued about. The filter catches most, but part of the mods job is to make the judgement calls that get past the filter, and to judge the context in which the word is being used.

All of that said, I will be the first to admit I am new at the whole "mod" thing, so I am perfectly prepared for a more experienced mod to come and smack me on the head if I screw up.

Hope this answers some of the questions that have been raised.
