Default Suggest a category to add / delete / merge

Please post if you think we're missing a good category, or if a category seems unnecessary.

Hopefully we can make most modifications while the forum is very new.

Thank you.

Default Too Many Categories

I think you should start more concentrated then if the "main" forums start to get too busy, then spin off sub forum categories. But is think the whole site should only be like.

US Politics
- Current events
- election
- issues
World Politics
- Russia and Europe
- Asia
- Africa
- Asia
- Canada
- Central and South America
Political Science
Off Topic chat
Feedback
Marketplace (if you want the trouble)

And that should put some lively discussion in a couple of forums at the top and leave room for everyone worldwide. Just my 2 Cents

I agree.

Many times you look for a post by someone you know so you can give your opinion, JUST LOOKING takes forever.

Thin them down.

Default Agreed

Agreed, the subject format here broader than necessary, particularly when you consider multiple threads on each subject. The discussion will be better if the focus is tighter, at least until traffic builds to many times it is now.

Default Some category changes / modifications made

Yeah, it would be nice to expand and grow as needed, but it's a little complicated to re-organize later.

So far these changes have been made:

Political Science has been made into a category instead of a top level, which takes up less space. It also means we could get rid of Other Political Science Discussion, as people can post in the root of Political Science.

4 of the Political Issues categories are now sub-categories. Those could easily be made categories again in the future.

Some categories in Political Issues and Other Discussion re-arranged.

Default 34 catagories is still much tooooooo long.

34 catagories is still much tooooooo long.

I'll tell you why.

I personally like to browse the topic discussion. But by having so many catagories it makes it almost impossible.

I look at it like if you were shopping for a new home, one two three four models is enough. So many more adds confusion and/or makes you forget where to look, or worse yet you don't bother.

I believe starting small and expand as membership requests. This place is like a family of four moving into a 32 room mansion. Close some doors until needed.

Default Category changes

More modifications made...

The Global Issues section has been dissolved. Warfare & Military and Economics & Trade categories are intact, but are under the Political Issues section. The other 3 (International Organizations, U.S. Policy, Other Global Issues) are combined into one Global Issues category.

Social Security is no longer as sub-category of Seniors, it's parallel.

5 more categories are now sub-categories of Other Political Issues.

The forum index listing is about 20% shorter.

Default Categories not filled out

Hopefully the site will continue grow faster. We'll have something like 2000 posts in our first month, and hit 6000 posts after the second month.

FYI, you can use the "View New Posts" link for browsing. There are also Email Digests and topic notifications. Search has an option to limit to 1 days' worth of posts (or 1 weeks'). You could also bookmark specific categories (topic indexes) in your browser or specific threads.
