ss, its disingenuous because you know the debate is about same sex marriage, gays being able to marry the opposite sex is a non issue. on the legality of gay marriage, the constitution doesnt even make the disctinction youre suggesting, thats why they want to amend it. marriage grants certain rights, thats why it is a civil rights issue in the context of gay marriage. letting states decide whether or not theyll adhere to the constitution is not a good idea.

the reason why you cant marry goats is because theyre not citizens, theyre not people. its not because they cant give consent. animals can consent to sex, they can even initiate it on their own. the reason they use those extreme examples is because they actually think theyre applicable. if they deny one group its civil rights, theyre essentially reduced to second class citizens - at that point, whats to stop them from comparing them to animals and criminals? not much, obviously.

The Constitution does not define marriage as a right...for anyone. Therefore it isnt a right. Even for heteros. It is only a defacto right because all of the states have individually decided to recognize hetero marriages. But it is not a right in the way that voting is a right, or due process is a right.




No, marriage grants certain privillages. That is not the same thing as a right.

Being able to drive is another example of a privillage that is not a right.



Give me an example of a state law that conflicts with the Constitution.

Because hetero marriage is already recognized as "normal". They believe that by legitimizing more abnormal behavior, people are more likely to accept goat marriage over time.

how can animals consent to sex? stand next to a male dog in heat and see if it doesnt yield to your legs invitation. children arent usually allowed to marry though, are they? you could try making your posts marginally relevant - just a thought.
