Thread: Why do gays care what their sexuality is?

  1. Default Why do gays care what their sexuality is?

Why do gays/lesbians believe that just "being born gay" is something to take pride in or base one's personal identity on?

You don't hear about "Straight pride rallies", or "Straight Pride Month", or the "Heterosexual rights movement" - why do gays think that just "being gay" makes them special or that most people (other than them) could care less if they're gay or not? I call this homo-narcissim.

Long story short, it's because they want to be who they are, without fear of the public insulting them because of it.

Isn't making a big deal out of it with "gay pride" rallies, a "gay pride flag" etc just going to do more to draw attention to it and cause them to be insulted for it.

Straight people don't walk around telling everyone "Hey look at me! I'm straight and I'm proud!"

They're trying to change how a population views homosexuality. By saying it's okay to be gay, it's changing the views.

I have never been to a gay pride rally, so I can't comment on those. The reason that you don't see heterosexual rights movements is because heterosexuals are not being denied basic rights because of their sexuality.

Honestly I only discuss my sexuality IF someone asks, or when defending our rights. I don't try to hide it, I talk about my life just like anyone else does. If I'm asked what I did this weekend, I will tell you that my partner and I did some yard work, went to the farmers market, and painted the hall.

Most of us don't either, yet we are accused of "shoving it down your throats" if we are in public holding hands, or have a picture of our partner on our desk, or discuss holiday plans and even mention our partner.

Tax benefits are not a "basic right".

You make your sexuality more of an issue than anyone else does.

Because people like to shove their "differences" in your face while simultaneously requesting to be treated the same.

If you put yourself out there, you are going to get insulted by people. That works for everyone.

    Yes.

Actually, it's not. The people that don't care will always not care, and the people that are opposed to it will always be opposed to it. By celebrating your sexuality, you are actually doing more harm to the people that are otherwise apathetic than changing anyone's mind.

They don't care, what they care about is others that want to deny them rights based on their sex, it's called sex discrimination

if a man can marry a women, a women should be able to do the same

belief is what is important, not so much what you believe, for instance, an ordinary sugar pill without belief helps no one, but with belief it can cure your ills and it can be quite the amazing little pill - the magic really comes from within

Marriage IS a basic right. There are over 1000 government granted privileges associated with marriage, and most have nothing to do with taxes.

How do I make my sexuality an issue? By holding hands? By not hiding? By demanding that I be treated equally as an American citizen?
