Does anyone have any good reasons why gay marriage should be made illegal? So far all I've heard are reasons why we shouldn't change the law to make it legal. So assuming it's already legal, are there any compelling reasons to overturn it?

I suppose it depends on what state or country you are talking about. In general, though, it's not legal, but there are various levels of legal recognition accross the country and world ranging from homosexuality being punishable with prison time to full marriage (rare)

I was speaking in a hypothetical. I don't see how geography would change the arguements against it, though.

States and countries are separated politically and not geographically. You are right though, you offered a hypothetical question and he didn't answer it.

The fact that something is already legal or illegal should not change the argument for or against it. Just it's current legal status.

If it's a hypothetical reason you're after, I'm probably not the best to ask, since I support it. However, the best arguments I've heard go around the protection and mental health of children. However, I will still refute these claims. Anything else I've heard just appears to be a double standard for "straight" marriage over "gay" marriage.
