Saleh should not be a minister of Uganda
Amongst the newcomers to the cabinet is President Museveni's notorious corruption-tainted brother – General Salim Saleh Akandanaho. With due respect to General Saleh, his ministerial nomination is an insult to Ugandans. If he really loves Uganda like he says, he should not accept the nomination. I can’t imagine any foreign ambassador trusting him with the financial aid supposed to help Ugandans, considering his past. I can’t see him commanding any trust from Ugandans.Saleh was forced to quit parliament back in December 2003 amid the endless corruption allegations against him. He made his return as an MP following the 23 February 2006 general elections. A close confidant of the president, Saleh, who was recently promoted to full general, resigned his seat in parliament following his implication in a string of high-profile corruption cases – including the Ugandan army's purchase of defective helicopters at an over-inflated price; his alleged involvement in the privatisation of former Uganda Commercial Bank, and allegations of his involvement in the alleged plundering of neighbouring DRCongo's natural resources during the country's 1998-2003 civil war – making his position untenable . Despite holding a number of different posts within the army, which still plays an influential governance role in the East African country, Salim has not held a cabinet post in the past due to his lack of academic qualification. Saleh is an intelligent man who could help us in other developmental fields but he should not be a minister of Uganda.
