Sorry guys, but the law of entropy says that even oil creates less energy than the energy it took to make it. Law of Conservation says that all energy conversions involve some sort of energy loss while one cannot create more energy by expending a given amount of energy. Not even with oil.

Energy of one kind is nothing more and nothing less than a conversion of some other energy and what we should be concerned with is alternative methods of energy conversion, expecting losses no matter what we do. Where the goal is getting a free source of energy such as water or wind, conversion costs should be minimal when no re-engineering of the jetstream or waterways is involved. No re-engineering of what Mom Nature gives us for free should even be permitted, and yet we should be able to tap it as a resource nonetheless.

Looks like Gian55 isn't the only one saying it....

By Jon D. Markman
Is Saudi Arabia running out of oil?

The Saudis claim to have plenty of reserves, but a top energy expert disputes that. Without any independent data, the world is dangerously in the dark, he says.

When that day comes -- in five years or perhaps 20, who knows -- many of the key exhibits will have been penned by Matthew Simmons, a Houston energy analyst and banker at Simmons & Co. International.

Simmons is now shouting from the rooftops -- writing think-tank white papers, giving speeches and finishing a book set for publication next year -- that the world is fast running out of affordable oil and gas, and that no amount of Middle Eastern pumping can bail us out.

National Geographic ran a cover story titled "The End of Cheap Oil."

I believe that was the most exposure this subject has received thus far.

Default oil

In 1971 proven reserves of oil were 612 billion barrels. Since then the world has produced and used 767 billion barrels, and today proven reserves stand at 1,028 billion barrels.

Be wary of extrapolating current trends too far into the future as technology has a way of changing things dramatically.

Supposedly, in the 1890's, a wise man predicted that with the growth of horse-drawn carriages, New York City would be four feet deep in horse manure by 1920.

it still is, i say!

anyways, solar, hydrodgen, wind, natural gas and methane either do not have enough reserves or enough energy for mass usage. Nuclear power is the only one with enough energy(it has proven reserves of 50 years, and we havent prospected as much as oil or coal for it), and the costs are so high because of unnecessary govt regulations. Plants are safe, and nuclear physicists made it that way, but politicians(who know nothing of the field) put unnecessary restrictions to appease the public. Repealing them will solve our problems however it seems that it will infact be buereacracy will be the end of us all.

Remember, china is becoming more prosperous, they are beginning to buy up gas-powered cars. What do you think will happen to our oil THEN?

seriously, if theres enough oil left to power tanks, wars will be fought over this.

Anyone notice that the media is beginning to cover the issue of of oil reserves and the capacity for nations to produce enough oil to meet the rising demands throughout the world. It seems like the focus has begun to move beyond just the prices of oil, and deal with the reasons behind the price hikes.
