Is not so good, thanks to the Homeland Security terrorists...
A Young Blonde Icelandic Woman’s Recent Experience Visiting the U.S. The story of Eva Ósk Arnardóttir: During the last twenty-four hours I have probably experienced the greatest humiliation to which I have ever been subjected. During these last twenty-four hours I have been handcuffed and chained, denied the chance to sleep, been without food and drink and been confined to a place without anyone knowing my whereabouts, imprisoned. Now I am beginning to try to understand all this, rest and review the events which began as innocently as possible. Last Sunday I and a few other girls began our trip to New York. We were going to shop and enjoy the Christmas spirit. We made ourselves comfortable on first class, drank white wine and looked forward to go shopping, eat good food and enjoy life. When we landed at JFK airport the traditional clearance process began. We were screened and went on to passport control. As I waited for them to finish examining my passport I heard an official say that there was something which needed to be looked at more closely and I was directed to the work station of Homeland Security. There I was told that according to their records I had overstayed my visa by 3 weeks in 1995. For this reason I would not be admitted to the country and would be sent home on the next flight. I looked at the official in disbelief and told him that I had in fact visited New York after the trip in 1995 without encountering any difficulties. A detailed interrogation session ensued. I was photographed and fingerprinted. I was asked questions which I felt had nothing to do with the issue at hand. I was forbidden to contact anyone to advise of my predicament and although I was invited at the outset to contact the Icelandic consul or embassy, that invitation was later withdrawn. I don't know why. Rest of Article Here

Thanks for that. I just sent this around, to about 10,000 people....
Jeez - these guys are NUTS!!! They're friggin' completely insane! I mean - what do these clowns think they're doing now? Exercising the "will of the American People in terms of illegal immigration", or some such thing? What do you think those guys think "they're" doing? Stopping terrorism? Ay ai ai..... |

Yesh, well, this is the "policy of the United States", remember? If Rudy gets elected,
I'm sure there'll be "no real rush" to change it, until the new regime can kinda get a handle on what the old regime was tryin' to do... and I mean, I figure that'll take a while, right? But ah, let's see.... last I heard, there was a protocol, based on an agreement between nations, about how to handle incidents like this. And they do involved allowing the person to contact the embassy from which they claim protection, and also, it involves ensuring some semblance of dignity for the person in question, unless or until that person is deemed to be a "real" threat - So I mean, this just shows me, the "consequences", of the Bush paranoia - they're just projecting their fear out into other "people", and even other "countries" - And I mean, read that thread from Grond, in the other forum - you know, that's kinda what would happen probably, in any kinda "Islamist assault", right? Well, you know.... I mean, those clowns are not capable of holding on to anything like that, right? The LAPD, would have no problem with those guys. Heck, even the Burbank PD could take those clowns out. They're not worth 4 trillion dollars. IMHO of course. |

I don't really agree with the new protectionist attitude in the United States. Even Canada's prime minister said in a recent interview that the move towards protectionism in the US will be detrimental for trade and tourism.
I think if Homeland Security toned down the scrutiny on low risk individuals, and focussed more on the thousands of cargo containers that comes into the US everyday, that America would be safer, and trade and tourism would be more prosperous.

The scariest part of this thread, for me at least, is that non has access to hundreds of thousands of minds.
Yikes. Beyond that, there are many unanswered questions for me. For instance, while this article shares one side of the story, it does not share the other side. It could merely be spin on the part of this woman in anticipation of a lawsuit. I don't disbelieve it, but it's far from enough to make me throw my hands in the hair and proclaim the U.S. is going to hell in a handbasket. I just went through customs and immigration myself last week, twice, and my experiences with the customs personnel were uniformly positive. I was actually impressed by the professionalism and courtesy we were shown. So...I'd like to hear more about this from other involved parties before I jump on this girl's bandwagon.
