Default United Nations sucks

What good do they do? How much does it cost us? Who have they helped? Why are we there again?

Default The UN don't have any power.

The reason why the UN has been inefficient is that they has always had their hands tied behind their backs. We have created an organization for diplomacy but it doesn't have the power to enforce it's will when diplomacy fails. The UN also have a huge problem with nations that are allowed to sabotage their work with things like veto powers. I would like the UN to be reconstructed, with no veto powers, no permanent seats in an security council and physically located withing an small neutral country with no imperial ambitions.

Isn't the UN supposed to help save people? If they were given the power to militarily enforce their own resolutions, it would just increase the carnage.

I agree the veto should be changed, but the larger and more significant nations on the world stage should get more votes based on economic and/or military influence. [See my topic, in this section, on the UN Veto Process]

Regarding physical location of the UN; the only reason it was placed in the US was because of the devastation after WWII.

P.S. And BTW if the US had imperial ambitions, we would of taken over a few more countries that insignificant Iraq and Afganistan...

Default UN

interesting, the UN was created by nations. so if the un's hands are tied behind its back, its the nations fault. the world needs the un regardless of what anyone says. its just that some nations (the US) dont use it when they should and manipulate it when they want it.

Default Corrupt

I dont know if any of you know this but the UN is one of the most corrupt organizations in the world. If there is a scandal in the UN it is against their rules to let if be known to anyone outside it. Now the "Oil for Food" scandal did escape the UN's confines and they are really ticked off about it. I think they need to get of U.S. soil and find a little island somewhere in the middle of the ocean. Its out done its purpose and waits to the last second in every major conflict in the world.

Default peacekeepers

The UN has a PEACEKEEPING force, not a war making force. The Un can only have as much power as per the countries following of their policies. They have no power of enforcement to their decsions. The problem is, like the US for a huge example, countries break UN aggrements all the time because they can without any real concequences. Especially when you are the most powerful nation in the world, you think the UN is going to call peacekeeping forces in to enforce weapons inspections for the US because they broke the Nuclear Weapons testing ban? Pretty unlikely.

Default .....

The Un definately needs to be restuctured. As long as any one nation has the ability to veto any resolution, then one nation has too much power. For example ( not saying it will happen) if the Russians became imperialistic, the Un wouldn't be able to do much about it b/c Russia has veto power. The system is setup so nothing can really be accomplished. I believe their is a need for an organization that brings all the nations together, it just needs different rules.

Default granted....

The workings of it can be some what ineffective, but still its roll is unimaginably important. IT needs to be there to stop reckless actions such as the United States' war in Iraq.

Default UN

The UN will have a new name in a couple of years 2 or 3. They combined with all other world bodies will form the world government as a visible enity. They will indeed have all encompassing power throughout the globe. You will witness it's unvailing if you are alive to do so. Agenda 21 a major UN program has many aspects to it. One of these is for the regions of the world to unite together to make 10 with ten heads of state one for each region. If you follow what occurs in relation to Agenda 21 you would notice it. But if you do not know what statement in the media relates to it it's meaningless. The UN use's food to controll behavior. that's a quote. They are very involved with the reduction of the worlds poputation. A reduction of 90% is the goal they are seeking to attain. If you have heard about that before they are not joking. This is why I do not support Bush, who I voted for or Kerry they are both involved with world government as one can be. If you think Bush is a Christian I am sorry you where lied to. So was I. www.bushrevealed.com and they are not for Kerry either. So in regards to the UN, Just like Bush & Kerry brothers to death through skull & bones. The UN is Us. We are being sold it little by little. Until BANG something go's off somewhere the Constitution is suspended for good and Marhsall Law will be the rule of the day. Oh, Peace Keepers will be here. But I can tell you it will not be peaceful for them.
