Default NRA not helping in fight against terrorism?

Years ago I heard an NRA official on a radio interview state that the NRA does not support using techniques to identify gun powder (which the FBI, etc can do). This was right after the Oklahoma City bombing. Does anyone know if they still feel this way? They of course see this as another attack on the rights to bear arms but it is silly. It would help us track terrorists and would not violate anybodies right to have guns, to reload etc.

Thanks,
Teft

Default ...

AFAIK, there is no regulation, in existence or proposed, which would stop any federal, state or local agency from employing analysis techniques to identify gun powder. And I'm not aware of any NRA position which suggests there should be.

The NRA opposed the Clinton/Reno administration's attempt to place an exorbitant tax on primers. By taking a box of shotgun shells to $50 per (by taxing the primers), only wealthy hunters... and gang members would have been able to afford them. But I've heard nothing about powder identification.

The NRA does oppose unreasonable restrictions and excessive taxes on powder, because a great many shooters (including myself) tend to handload their own rounds.
