Well as you might guess, I like to play around a little with guns, so I own a few myself!

I have a Henry Big Boy .44 mag rifle

A Weatherby Mark V that shoots .416 grain, just in case somebody's Rhino gets off its chain?

I have a Browning Semi Auto 12 Gauge

A m1911 .45 Cal pistol, and my Carry & Conceal is a Glock 17 9mm, which is a sweet weapon!!

Yep like a good Boy Scout I am prepared, and we ALL should be under the current Fascists, as our RIGHTS are slippin away??

Well since I was gone I purchased a S&W 460V, a 1885 Remington Lee, P51 Enfield Musketoon, M1795 Musket, and a Brown Bess.

I have really been thinking about buying one once I get back to working. More so for going to a shooting range than just general home protection. How is a Beretta 92 9mm for a starter?

You could do worse, but personally I'd go with the Taurus PT92 9mm instead for a beginner's weapon. It's basically an improvement on the Beretta design (looks just like one too; whenever I take mine to the range people always call it a Beretta, even after I tell 'em what it is!). It also has a built-in locking mechanism, so you can actually lock the gun with a key when you're storing it, and it won't be operable until it's unlocked again with the key. It's also quite a bit cheaper than a Beretta so with the money you save you can buy plenty of ammo to practice with. The only downside is that the finish, at least on the blued version, ain't so great. Aside from that it's a great gun.

If your primary interest is home defense however, I'd recommend a simple 12 gauge shotgun. More effective, and dirt cheap. Handguns are toys.

I actually like the finish on the Taurus, I'm going to add that to the keep an eye on. The short list I have includes, Beretta 92, Springfield XD9, and S&W M&P, now the Taurus PT92. www.best9mm.com helped me out with the list.

I own 2 - 45 Automatic colt pistol's handed down to me. Sentimental value but surely would only use them in an extreme case if need be. I don't even use them.

Of course I do. Here is what I have:
winchester 243(deer)
remington 870 20 ga(dove/turkey)
mosin nagant(fun/historical)
AK(lots of fun)
G19(personal defense)
RIA com. Tac. .45(home defense/CCW)

Why else do I own? Guns made this country what it is. When used properly can be very fun. When you have no other choice they can save your life.

If you're going to go 9mm, take a look at the Springfield XDm. I got one for my wife despite my misgivings about 9mm. It is VERY accurate out of the box, very easy to shoot, is customizable, has a great trigger and a 19 round capacity magazine.

That was one of the guns mentioned in my second post on here. I do love the look of the XDm. Is it easy to clean?

I'd avoid the 9mm and move to .40

I have an XD but it's not an XDm...

I used a 9mm in the service and I think it's a round
with lots of limitations in terms of close quarter protection.

Just my opinion.
