No, I have not. I fought in Vietnam - a very different place - a very different war. A company commander in Afghanistan might not call in artillery fire, tactical air support, or a B-52 bomb strike, on any given day. That's what I did. All limited wars have their own rules; and, given the rules of engagement, we have no business putting our military at risk in Afghanistan. That said, it does not change what I said about officers carrying weapons. An officer is in charge by virtue of his knowledge and ability that are the atributes of leadership; and if he cannot rely on that alone, he is not worth the bullet to blow him to hell.
