I know it doesn't make sense, however to me the 1891/30 has more recoil than the M44.

I have shot my No.1 Mk.III a couple of times, it didn't seem to be too bad. Never have shot my No.4.

Single shot firearms have been obsolete since the Civil War. Almost any reapeating weapon would be of more value, as long as it is comfortable to shoot. A handgun will beat most other types of guns to carry around. For home defense, a pump shotgun would be better. The best "cheap" gun would be a Saiga AK47 semi-auto clone for about $350. With this you'll have 30 times the firepower. I'd rather have one rifle with a few 30 round clips, than a single shot rifle and 1,000 rounds. BTW I don't see any military or police using Rossi rifles around the world.

A single shot repeating rifle is easy, put one round in.

The idea of single shot firearms teaching marksmanship leaves much to be desired. You have a single shot firearm with much less versatility than a repeating firearm.

I tought my son to fire a rifle with a 91/30. It was in 1999 and I had decided that we needed to have at least a rifle and a couple of pistols on hand in case something did hit the fan. The rifles had just become available for about $60 and ammo was about $.08 per round.

I think I inadvertantly put him a bit off of rifles.

He did, however, like my Jennings .22 and Izmesh .380.

I can think of no real use for a single-shot rifle other than for deer hunting. (I do not reccomend it for bear, since bears are kind of unforgiving of mistakes.) .357 Mag is about the smallest caliber that makes any sense, but .45 Long Colt would be a far better idea. The only advantage I can see in a .357 Mag rifle is the minimal recoil.

At close ranges, you'll miss because you pattern didn't open up yet. Use the sights and avoid hitting innocent people.

And load it with #4 bird shot, not #00 buck.

You want to get the orc who has violated your space, not the neighbor in the next apartment.
