Thread: Rearming after a long lull

Default Rearming after a long lull

My household downsized our firearms inventory to a very few for home/carry over the last two years. Today I went out shopping again and was amazed how busy the gun store was and how much ammo costs. In fact it was the ammo cost issue that drove today's purchase.

I was looking for a reliable single shot rifle to teach my spouse on. I did not want to spend big bucks nor did I want anything too complicated. I settled on a Rossi Wizard in .357/38.

I decided on that round for a simple reason..I have maybe 1000 rounds already and as expensive as the ammo is today, shooting up what I already have makes sense...

So, is anyone familiar with this rifle (on order but not received yet)???

    Comments would be welcome

I've shot several Rossis. Not bad for the working bits, but not very good in fit and finish. Seemed pretty accurate and the trigger wasn't bad for the price. I like the interchangeable barrels on the Wizard. The guy who owned it liked it well enough.

A Rossi single shot? Good luck with that. My brother had the single shot .410 and never once did the spent shell lift slightly out like it was supposed to. He returned it after less than a dozen rounds through it.

You want an inexpensive teaching tool, get a 10/22.

I considered the 10/22 but I also wanted something with a bit more recoil and a better defense round.

Then get an 870 with a 7 round tube. No need to aim. Point in the general direction.

Yep! Best piece out there for the money. I would think, though, if you are investing, get the stainless steel version. It's alot easier to clean. Also for hoofing it, in a "just in case" scenario, it is easier to carry 10 25 round clips. Rather feel the weight of 100 .22's in my pocket and they are just as deadly. Did you know they make a 10/22 magnum? Fired one once, loved it! But a bit spendy. buy and enjoy

Just thought I'd note it has been nearly 3 months and I am still waiting for the rifle...

That's crazy (although I had to wait several months for my supplier to the the Walther PPQ I ordered.) Regardless, you should get a basic 10/22 or .17 HMR for your wife to learn on, while you wait on the .357 to arrive. When I taught my wife to shoot I used about ten different weapons in a mixture of types and she liked the 10/22 the best. The best part is you should be able to pick one up for about $250 - or $100 cheaper if you can find a used one. You can teach her on that gun, then refine her skills with the .357.
