As I have seen many people in this forum are against extreme gun control, I was wondering what ideas are being tossed around on how to end the incredible number of gun deaths each year. Any ideas?

I think the biggest one is enforcement of existing gun laws.... there are already plenty out there that are rarely enforced. Other than that, education and more places where people can actually shoot would help. How are kids going to learn to properly handle guns and respect the danger they can be if their parents can't take them out to teach them?

Exactly, there is actually software available right now, RIGHT THIS SECOND that is ready to be implemented. It will allow for an instantaneous background check that checks the records of every state in the US. It not only checks criminal, but selected medical conditions that may preclude you from being issued a weapon (by medical I mean head shrinker's), it does not say what the infraction is (so it does not violate your rights), just lets the dealer know they can not sell. All it is waiting on is funding from the Federal government. But I guess they are just too busy spending money on figuring out what the 2nd amendment means.

Every single gun shop/range I have been to offers a free weapons safety class when you purchase a weapon. It is not much, but it is a start.

This nation has over two thousand gun laws, less than a fifth of them are enforced because of funding. The same people that want to make more gun laws are the ones holding up this funding.

Notice how the farther down the list you go, the smaller their balls get.

13% of the population commits more than 50% of the murders in the US.

What would YOU suggest [Hendrix]?

Yeah, four words - enforce the death penalty.

I think ideally all guns would be abolished, but as I have been told and informed on this forum, that can't happen and isn't practical. I honestly have no idea since I live in middle upper class suburbs. This is why I turn to experts for advice.

Well thanks. But we are not experts either (least I am not). And I grew up in the upper middle class. Those people need weapons to defend themselves as well.

I have a question about this (and no sarcasm is intended, its a serious question). Would you remove all guns; the police, military, and protection services included?

Well, as this is the ideal best case scenario, police technically would not need guns, because they wouldn't fight anyone with guns. Police could use other tactics, which they do have plenty of. The military I think would have to keep guns, because obviously other countries have guns, and what beats guns then more guns?

And that's the point.... for one-on-one conventional battle, the gun rules. Even if you were to remove all guns, there would still be the criminals. They would still prey on those they percieve to be weaker. They would use knives, sticks, rocks to aclomplish it. Firearms are the equalizer... with a gun a 95lb. elderly woman can match the 250lb. bruiser coming after her.
