The problem is that if that guy had a gun, he could have killed ten times the number of people that he did.

No the problem was none of the victims were armed, so they could not defend themselves. None of the bystanders had a defensive mindset and were not armed, so they could not defend their fellow man.

Japan banned firearms a long time ago, yet this type of thing continues to happen.

We do not have a gun problem people. We have a violence problem. Banning tools will not solve the problem.

Hmm... I don't agree with you there. If everyone carried a gun all the time, I could see regular disputes and arguments occasionally becoming something more violent.
