Watched a pretty good segment on Nightline last night.

It covered an Open Carry picinic in VA. Good to see people exercising their rights and protecting themselves and their families.

Wow i didn't know open carry existed. It's probable better the conceled carry because just the sight of guns on people would do alot to deter crime. When you have to hide it all the time it leaves them with a false but still a sense of security in doing what they do. Where is open carry allowed? i imagine nation wide open carry would be the ultimate goal for gun rights.

Many states allow open carry. In NC for example, anyone who can legally own a handgun can legally carry it in plain view without a permit. There are restrictions, like schools, government property, and business that sell alcohol for consumtion on the property.

Each state has its own laws regarding it.

There a lot more more restrictions placed on concealed carry. Registrations, required permits left up to the decision of local sheriffs, many places they cannot be taken.....

In NC, I cannot take a concealed weapon into a bank, but I can open carry a gun legally into that same bank.

I own a business that sells firearms and accessories, and I cannot wait until the day that everyone in this country is allowed to carry a weapon to defend themselves. These nutjobs that enter a fast food joint wouldn't get past his first victim before 3 people next to him put the man down.

Not only is it good for my business to see such an outcome, but most important its getting back to what this country is intended to be, which is a free republic.

I like concealed better. In Tennessee, we just assume EVERYBODY is carrying. Keeps us all polite.

That it does.

But open carry works the same way a uniformed cop on patrol does. It's obvious.

They both have their merits, but concealed carry does offer a lot more discretion.
