Default Ill. Court Dismisses Gunmakers Lawsuit

Ill. Court Dismisses Gunmakers Lawsuit

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Illinois Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed two lawsuits that accused gun manufacturers of creating a "public nuisance" by knowingly letting their weapons fall into the hands of criminals.

The lawsuits, filed in 1998 by the city of Chicago and victims of gun violence, accused the gunmakers of pouring weapons into the Chicago area that kill people and lead to hundreds of millions of dollars in law-enforcement and health care costs.

But the court ruled there was no legal basis for holding the manufacturers responsible.

Great news! Now if "Da Mare" would be held liable for the defendants' legal costs, all would be right in the world!

ps. I've shopped at Chuck's, back when it was Bell's, and I found them to be strict and law-abiding. Wonder what went wrong? (They were part of the sting)

Default Best news : Court Dismisses Gunmakers Lawsuit

This is the best news I heard since the Red Sox beat the Yankees.
Seriously the best news was the reason that the court gave:

Quote:
The lawsuits,......., claimed the defendants (Gunmakers) created a public nuisance by pouring guns into the Chicago area that are used to kill.

“The mere fact that defendants’ conduct in their plants, offices and stores puts guns into the stream of commerce does not state a claim for public nuisance,” the court said. “It is the presence and use of the guns within the city of Chicago that constitutes the alleged nuisance.”

Beautiful !!Love it !! If the stupidity of the suit prevailed an auto manufacturers could be sued if someone purposefully ran another person over with a car.

Jeez !!! If I was a stupid Palestinian I would out in the back and shoot my .222 Remington in the air as a celebration !!!

It was a ridiculous law suit and I am so glad that it was struck down. Unfortunately, it won't be the end of stupid lawsuits, but hopefully the courts will not try to subvert the constitution any more than they already do.

Gun makers aren't "the good guys" or "the bad guys." It is wrong to hold them responsible for actions taken by others, but I wouldn't consider them "the good guys" because I don't find anything particularly "good" about lobbying against reasonable gun laws in order to raise profits. They seem to have complete indifference about the harm that their products cause, but corporate indifference to the harm caused by their products is not unique to the gun industry.

Reasonable. That's your opinion. I disagree, and can back it up with logical facts.

Go for it. Explain what you consider reasonable gun laws and tell me how the gun lobby has supported those laws.

The only reasonable gun control law is the non-existent gun control law.

Default Very good news

I am glad common sense and the constitution still guide people to make the right decisions.

If I am not mistaken, gun laws have been tightened over the last 20 years. Not just anyone can go and buy a gun. The guns used by criminals are not obtained through legal means. If all guns were banned, the criminals who make up all of these statistics will still be able to find guns. They would be the only ones with them. Safety measures have increased, criminal history checks are done, you can not buy a gun if you have outstanding traffic tickets. Ya, these laws are unreasonable. Actually, I don't have any problem with them. If you are a law abiding citizen you can buy and carry a gun. Very reasonable.

You are living in the wrong country if you disagree with anyones right to create and sell a product through legal means. These companies do not promote people using guns to kill other people. It is the anti-gun people who promote these statements. It is lawsuits like this one that promote this, not the gun manufacturers.
