Well another good thing about gun control coming out of Illinois. It seems that the Chicago area put a ban on all handguns. That means even in your own home. Well the state congress passed a law, over the veto of the anti-gun nut of a governor, that states:
It is an affirmative defense to a violation of a municipal ordinance that prohibits, regulates, or restricts the private ownership of firearms if the individual who is charged with the violation used the firearm in an act of self-defense or defense of another as defined in Sections 7-1 and 7-2 of this Code when on his or her land or in his or her abode or fixed place of business.
The bill, "...was inspired by the case of Hale DeMar, a Wilmette restaurant owner who shot a burglar who had broken into his home twice. County prosecutors declined to press charges for the shooting, but Wilmette officials charged DeMar with breaking the city's ban on handguns."
Now, there is a long way to go with taking back the 2nd amendment. It is disconcerting to hear people think that this override was a mistake and that it is somehow dangerous. I think the dangerous line of thought is that which places trust in government at all. However, this is a small step in the right direction, may it continue forth and with any luck the people will awake and practice their rights regardless of what government tries to do to take them away.
