Default THIS IS NUTS!!

...OK..

In my continuing education of GUNS 101, can the gun experts here describe the gun in this story? Is this a logical gun for hunting? Does this gun also fall under "assault weapons" ?

I am just trying to learn more about guns so forgive my "foolishness on the issue"..

Default ...

It's probably not an "assault weapon", though it really depends on what accessories he has.

The SKS was originally a Chinese rifle made similarly to the AK. It's cheap, reliable and available in nearly any nation in the world.

I have a couple, and they're decent guns. I've killed deer with one before.

Default SO..

...If you decided to go buy a gun for deer hunting, an SKS will not be first on your list, right? I think I understand what you mean by accessories..but it is not specifically a "hunting rifle", is it?

Default Great, so now all of the gun banning

freak-a-zoids will use this case as an example of the "harm done by assualt weapons" even though the SKS may have been an assault weapon in 1946
it is not as accurate or as powerful as the RUGER 44 OR THE REMINGTON
7400.

But that will not stop the social-liberal-know-nothingp-knee-jerk- sniffling-whinning freaks from screaming at the top of their lungs that "all guns should be banned".

Remember the British Brown Bessy was an assault weapon in 1779 ..................... and even the Bible had assault weapons, didn't someone kill someone else according to the Bible "with the jaw bone of an ass" ....... maybe we should ban asses ..........

Default Nope

In answer to your question:

I know a lot of hunters, and no one I know of, uses a AK-47 (same thing as the SKS mentioned) because of accuracy, range, and stance problems it's a bad choice.

There is a more obvious problem here though.......

Default No...

...it's not anywhere near specifically being a hunting rifle.

Why do you ask, Munko?

Default Is anyone even going to mention the fact that this guy

is a Hmong refugee, a group that has had more than their fair share of problems with gangs/violence in the U.S. in this region?

Default Yeah, so I've heard.

But it was my brown, Filippino husband who brought up the subject while we were sharing the bathroom this morning, getting ready for work.

He said, "What do you bet that the fact that he's an immigrant from a group that has had a high level of criminal involvement since coming here won't be touched by a 10-foot pole by the MSM?" I agreed he was probably correct. Then he said, "Nah, they'll go after the guns."

Right on both counts, I'd say. He's a smart guy.

Default Interesting page on the Hmong, compiled by a Chinese guy...

http://www.arthurhu.com/index/hmong.htm

He's incorrect on the gang issue, though. Hmong gangs are a huge problem in Minnesota and Wisconsin, both of which have large Hmong populations for some reason.
