A bill was recently filed in my state to allow concealed carry permit holders to carry on campus, as they already can nearly everywhere else in the state.
I'm all for it and so are many other students, but the idea has not gone over so well with others, in my state and across the country - one professor even called the police when a student advocated it. What do you guys think about allowing permit holding individuals to carry on college campuses?

It's a collision between private property rights and the second amendment. I have a right to carry a concealed firearm, but not necessarily the right to carry it on someone else's property if they forbid it.
Texas has taken a step in the direction that there are some instances where the 2nd Amendment can trump the 4th Amendment under certain circumstances. So is this a States' Rights issue (under the 10th), or is it an Equal Protection issue (under the 14th)? I think that students would be much safer on a campus that permits concealed carry, but due to the complexity of the intersection of 4 different rights, this is a question that needs to be settled by the Supreme Court.

I think it's a great idea. One faculty member with a gun could have ended both the Columbine incident and VA Tech. Peaceful law abiding citizens should never have the rights to protect themselves restricted.
I know it's cliche', but gun laws do nothing to stop criminals, gun free zones only apply to people who are going to abide by the laws anyway.

...what the deceased student’s families from the VA-TECH shootings opinion would be? There are several states that allow law-abiding students to exercise their constitutional rights. I also have to wonder why we never hear about violence from any of those schools.
