Default Guns in schools!

A bill was recently filed in my state to allow concealed carry permit holders to carry on campus, as they already can nearly everywhere else in the state.

I'm all for it and so are many other students, but the idea has not gone over so well with others, in my state and across the country - one professor even called the police when a student advocated it.

What do you guys think about allowing permit holding individuals to carry on college campuses?

No kidding with all these school shooting It would make sense for someone with a CCW to be able to conceal it at school.

Thats what CCW is for. No use in having it if you can only carry it in the safest of times and places.

BTW like I mentioned in other posts. Most gun violence is done by non registered owners so I would feel safer around smeone with a CCW then some disgruntled punk who found dadies gun.

It's a collision between private property rights and the second amendment. I have a right to carry a concealed firearm, but not necessarily the right to carry it on someone else's property if they forbid it.
Texas has taken a step in the direction that there are some instances where the 2nd Amendment can trump the 4th Amendment under certain circumstances. So is this a States' Rights issue (under the 10th), or is it an Equal Protection issue (under the 14th)?

I think that students would be much safer on a campus that permits concealed carry, but due to the complexity of the intersection of 4 different rights, this is a question that needs to be settled by the Supreme Court.

I think it's a great idea. One faculty member with a gun could have ended both the Columbine incident and VA Tech. Peaceful law abiding citizens should never have the rights to protect themselves restricted.

I know it's cliche', but gun laws do nothing to stop criminals, gun free zones only apply to people who are going to abide by the laws anyway.

Default I wonder...

...what the deceased student’s families from the VA-TECH shootings opinion would be?

There are several states that allow law-abiding students to exercise their constitutional rights.

I also have to wonder why we never hear about violence from any of those schools.

I agree, its a good thing.

Law-abiding citizens should always be able to protect themselves.

From Wikipedia.com -- (bold itallics mine)

Quote:
Luke Woodham (born February 5, 1981) is a convicted American murderer, and a former resident of Pearl, Mississippi, United States. He instigated a school shooting at Pearl High School on October 1, 1997, which left three people dead, including his own mother, and seven injured. He is currently serving three life sentences with an additional 120 years.

On October 1, 1997 Woodham, then 16, beat and stabbed his mother, Mary Woodham, to death. At his trial he said he could not remember killing his mother. The shooting rampage at the school was stopped when an assistant principal used a legally licensed handgun to hold Woodham at bay until police arrived.
You hit the nail squarely on the head with your comment!

He went on to wound 7 others before Joel Myrick, the assistant principal, retrieved a .45 pistol from the glove compartment of his truck and subdued Woodham while he was trying to drive off campus.
Funny how the connotation can change simply by quoting another part of the same article. The shooting was over and he tried to get away. That was "all".
