AIDS is rife in the Black community

As scary as it sounds... there was an article in a local 'underground' newspaper recently that reported within one inner-city community that's primarily black... over 60% of black females between the ages of 15-18 are HIV+.

Unless we wake up and get back to teaching prevention, I'm afraid we're going to lose a whole generation of young black people.

BTW, not looking for sympathy or discussion... but I have a gay step-brother who's in the final stages of AIDS. I can assure you it's a very real disease.

technology is catching up but its only for the rich as magic johnson had HIV AIDS for 20 years and his medical costs are very expensive and others die because they can't afford the treatment

prevention will not help they have to either get the health care system to share costs so everyone gets the care of the rich or make the medicine cheaper for poor blacks

My brother has no money and has never been turned down for medical assistance. His expensive drugs are provided by non-profit charities. They've kept him alive for years now.

Prevention means not having risky sex... not even once.

That's the message that should be spread around -- not you only get AIDS because you're poor. That's hogwash.

Japan has one of the lowest infection rates, less than .01%. It's cultural. We just shun everyone who has it. They're disgusting people.

Asians in America also have a very low infection rate -- it's definitely cultural.

Personal responsibility is the main ingredient lacking in too many tragic cases when people have ruined their lives when it could have easily been prevented. Having said that though, none of us are perfect. It has to be said, that not all cases of people contracting aids are atributable to a lack of reasonable care.

not all AIDs victims get access to charities that is why the poor ones die sooner than the rich ones in the US, the solution is a government system where everyone shares the expensive costs of AIDS care

prevention is bad because people want to have relations and they want it like everyone else does in safer richer communities where AIDS isn't a problem because protection does not feel good

just because blacks are often victimized in poor communities where HIV is rampant doesn't mean they have to be discriminated against in how they do relations or what otherwise means 'prevention'

Their percentage of the population is decreasing. They used to constitute 13% of the populace. Now the percentage has declined below that. Abortion has really put a dent in their population.
