Default Salem Witch Trials 1692-93 why?

The infamous Salem witch trials between 1692-1693 in colonial Massachusetts.

Over 150 people were arrested and imprisoned, with even more accused who were not formally pursued by the authorities. The two courts convicted twenty-nine people of the capital felony of witchcraft. Nineteen of the accused, fourteen women and five men, were hanged. One man who refused to enter a plea was crushed to death under heavy stones in an attempt to force him to do so. At least five more of the accused died in prison.

If these people were really faithfull why did they beleive in witchcraft. It sounds like a contratiction to me.

Mass hysteria, fear of being persecuted themselves so then pointing fingers, religious zealotry, and total ignorance of "magic" powers.

    That's it.

I've read that the wheat they were eating had a fungus in it that makes you hallucinate. They'd trip balls and see crazy (*)(*)(*)(*), and then kill people for jesus.

I was given a spanking and sent home by the PF Power brokers for speaking my mind and calling (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s by their real names.

I have been self employed for 20 years and always will be.

No need to expound upon the horrors of Salem really. What happened there was abominable, and speaks volumes of group-think mentality and fear of those in power. Witch Hunt became part of common vernacular because of the lunacy that drove the madness in Salem.

Love to chat with you on this over a beer at a Hoffbrau Haus someday, but writing like this is tiresome after a while.

There is no contradiction in a faithful Christian believing in witchcraft. I believe witchcraft is mentioned in the bible, part of the devil's work.

The "witches" were killed by an population that was part fearful of witch powers and part envy because the population were just human and had no special powers.

    Probably an outbreak of encephalitis.

Livestock as well as humans sufferd from "fits", bruises, necks bizarrely twisted out of place.

No wonder people panicked--considering the scientific ignorance of the times.
