Im not entirely sure what the Whig/Democrat-Republican landscape was pre 1850's, but the fact remains that after the 1850's the Democrat Party was the anti-black racist party. Bunch of flip floppers, they even had the gall to not even change their party name. But what do you expect with idiot voters like that. |
The Whig Party broke up in the 1850s. The Northern Whigs, for the most part, formed the Republican Party (along with a few other groups) while the Southern Whigs pretty much took over the Democratic Party. BTW - The Democratic-Republican Party pretty much broke up after the Election of 1824, to be replaced by the Democratic Party by the Election of 1828.
